Waiting on Wednesday- Starters by Lissa Price

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine highlighting upcoming books that we are eagerly anticipating.

This week I am featuring Starters, a YA dystopian debut by Lissa Price:

Starters by Lissa Price

The cover was just revealed last week, but so far no word of an official synopsis. Here is the short teaser copy that is listed on Goodreads:

The first in a futuristic thriller series featuring a society where youth is coveted at an impossible price, and one girl’s ability to bring it all crumbling down.

Updated Jan. 22, 2012 with full synopsis:

HER WORLD IS CHANGED FOREVER

Callie lost her parents when the Spore Wars wiped out everyone between the ages of twenty and sixty. She and her little brother, Tyler, go on the run, living as squatters with their friend Michael and fighting off renegades who would kill them for a cookie. Callie’s only hope is Prime Destinations, a disturbing place in Beverly Hills run by a mysterious figure known as the Old Man.

He hires teens to rent their bodies to Enders—seniors who want to be young again. Callie, desperate for the money that will keep her, Tyler, and Michael alive, agrees to be a donor. But the neurochip they place in Callie’s head malfunctions and she wakes up in the life of her renter, living in her mansion, driving her cars, and going out with a senator’s grandson. It feels almost like a fairy tale, until Callie discovers that her renter intends to do more than party—and that Prime Destinations’ plans are more evil than Callie could ever have imagined. . . .

So, that’s what we know so far. I do like the eye-catching cover and the line “Be Somebody…Else”. I’m intrigued and eager to find out more. The author shared some additional info about the book in an interesting interview with Presenting Lenore’s blog here.

Look for Starters in March 2012 coming to you from Delacorte/Random House.

What book are you waiting on this week?
