In My Mailbox (40)

In My Mailbox is a weekly event hosted by The Story Siren & inspired by Pop Culture Junkie. It is a way to feature the books you purchased, traded, borrowed or received for review each week.

This week I received:

Library:

Scored by Lauren McLaughlin – YA dystopian where all kids are given a score that determines their future success.

Bought:

The Seeds of Wither by Lauren DeStefano (kindle ebook sampler $1.99) – Includes an exclusive short story about Linden’s first wife Rose, the first 100 pages of Wither, and 1 chapter of Fever. I was disappointed in how short the Fever teaser is and I thought the short story would be a little more substantial. The short story is interesting to read while you wait for Fever‘s release but overall not a great value.

For Review:

Partials by Dan Wells – This was a recent WoW pick of mine so I was excited to receive this one. It’s the first book in a new post-apocalyptic series. (HarperCollins)

E-Books for Review:

11/22/63 by Stephen King – Sounds really interesting with the historical and time travel elements. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a King book and I’m a little intimidated by the page count but it looks great.  (Klout perk/Simon & Schuster)

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout – I was waiting for my daughter at the dentist and saw this book go up on NetGalley. Got my request in and approved in record time. Have been seeing some good reviews popping up and I’m eager to read it! Haven’t read too many books about aliens yet. (NetGalley/Entangled)

The Gathering Storm: The Katerina Trilogy Vol. 1 by Robin Bridges – This is on my debut author challenge list and it sounds like an intriguing paranormal historical. (NetGalley/Delacorte Books)

What did you get in your mailbox this week?

Hehe I picked up 11/22/63 last week too.. Glad it’s an ebook! It’s quite the hefty printed book otherwise.. lol

  2. I don’t think The Seeds of Wither is available in Canada yet (or at least it wasn’t), but I thought it was pretty expensive for a short story and a sneak peek. Your response just confirms my thoughts. Don’t think I’ll be buying it..

Obsidian was a pretty decent book; I got it on Netgalley as well. I don’t love it as much as everyone else, but I thought it was a cool idea, like a combo of Roswell and I Am Number Four.

A friend read Stephen King’s 11/22/63 recently and really enjoyed it. I have to admit that while I’ve seen a few Stephen King films, I’ve yet to read any of his books (despite having one sitting on my shelves!).

It looks like you’ve done well this week. I hope you enjoy them all 🙂

I was curious about The Seeds of Wither and almost got it the other day, since you say it isn’t worth it I’m glad I didn’t!

  6. Very nice haul this week! I’ve been wanting to check out Scored and The Gathering Storm but keep forgetting to get around to it.

  9. There was a time when I was deeply into Stephen King – such darkness and strangeness. Like you, it’s been a long time since I’ve read his works, I have a feeling I may not take to it at this point now in my life. Such is the way of things, I suppose. Best of luck with your reading. 🙂

  10. I’m looking forward to Partials as well, and I’m super excited about The Gathering Storm. Great books!

  11. Ooh what an amazing loot! I’m excited to read the new Stephen King too – and I’ve heard good things about Wither and Scored. Hope you enjoy all your reads.
