Mailbox Monday

Mailbox Monday is a weekly event started by Marcia, and is now hosted on a blog rotation. Martha of Reviews by Martha’s Bookshelf is the host for the month of May.

This week’s new arrivals:

Purchased:

Insurgent by Veronica Roth – Picked up the book for my daughter & the audio for me. Already listened to Insurgent and it is intense and amazing!

Shine by Jeri Smith-Ready – kindle edition. The last book in the Shade trilogy – can’t wait to see how it all ends.

Storm by Brigid Kemmerer – kindle edition. This was a kindle impulse purchase and it looks like a fun action-filled Summer read.

Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins – book. The reviews make this paranormal romance book about angels sound awfully good.

Review:

Rock God by Barnabus Miller. Another music themed YA that looks hilarious and fun.

eGalleys from NetGalley & Edelweiss:

Every Day by David Levithan (Aug. 28) – I’m always excited to see a new book by Levithan and this one sounds really interesting. The main character wakes each day in a different body and has learned to not form attachments since he won’t stay long. However, in this body du jour he falls for someone and now doesn’t want to leave.

Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill (Nov. 13) – This contemporary romance looks so cute and just like my type of book. It takes place over a spring break school trip to London and is about a girl who thinks she’s found her “Meant to be” but is caught off guard when real true love hits her.

Love and Other Perishable Items (Dec. 11) by Laura Buzo – This book was originally released as Good Oil in Australia in 2010 so there are already lots of reviews out there for this one. I wonder if the American release is going to be different at all or if it’s just a title change. Looks like another quirky contemporary romance & I can’t wait to read it.

Insignia by S.J. Kincaid (July 10) – The early reviews make this dystopian sound so good. And it’s even being compared to some of the most popular dystopians out there so it’s hard not to have big expectations for this one.

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick (June 14) – So glad there’s so many contemporary titles coming out & this one looks like one of the better ones. Will be putting this book on top of my kindle reading stack!

What did you receive in your mailbox this week?

  1. Great books for you. Hope you enjoy all your great reads.

Great haul! I received Insurgent too, but I’m really intrigued by Sweet Evil! Happy reading!

  3. I’m so curious what the changes will be in the US version of Good Oil. I think Catie is going to do a comparison like she did for Graffiti Moon. I had no idea that was what the Levithan book is about–it sounds SO interesting! I’ll definitely be looking out for that review. Jenny Lawson update: I’m on disc 5. There’s a little lag in the middle with more seriousness and not as many laughs but I’m still loving it:)

I know what you mean about the Lawson book – it does slow down a little, but it helps to explain where she’s coming from too. She has some interesting stories! Looking forward to checking out Catie’s comparison post about the Laura Buzo Australian/American versions.

I think Insurgent may be this week’s “it” book. Hope you enjoy it and all your new books.

  5. These are all new to me, but they look good. Happy reading!

So many pretty covers! I particularly like the one for Meant to Be.

  7. Looking forward to hearing what you think of the contemporary books on your list! You have good taste so I’ll await your verdict before making a purchase (or two or three). 🙂

    1. Lucy says:

Thanks Debbi! I think you and I both will like My Life Next Door and Meant to Be. So glad for all of these new contemporary titles 🙂

I’m waiting for Insurgent to come out on CD so I can get it from my library. I just listened to Divergent and I need to know what happens next!

    1. Lucy says:

The Insurgent audio is amazing. It’s the same narrator as Divergent so I think you’ll like it too. So intense!

Maybe I need to start doing Mailbox Monday instead of trying to do In My Mailbox on Sundays since I can never seem to actually get it done on Sunday lol. Great haul of books! I just read a really good review of Sweet Evil.

    1. Lucy says:

Sweet Evil does look good- fingers crossed! And yeah Monday’s work better for me for the mailbox posts too. I am liking Mailbox Monday a lot.

  14. Suko says:

I’m missing a few of these in my TBR pile! May is teeming up to be a good month for books so far…I’m excited!

  16. MarthaE says:

You got some great titles. I will have to include my NetGalley requests next week. I’m not sure I want to look too long at your list as it would only lead to envy and a risk of a bigger TBR pile for me! Although my June and July calendar is pretty open so maybe….
    Happy reading!

  17. Kelsey says:

I got Insurgent too! Can’t wait to read it next 🙂 Sweet Evil and Storm sound good from what I’ve heard
