Feel Good Books

As most of you know I’m in the middle of a short blog hiatus. I miss you all a lot and appreciate your kind thoughts so much. I’ve been missing reading too but have been at a loss about what book to start. Reading is always a favorite pastime of mine but now it’s an especially good escape. So I’m really looking forward to finding the right book and the time to dive back in.

I had been reading a lot of contemporary lately but some of the books I have on my shelf are more on the heavy side, which I don’t think I can handle right now. I was thinking of reading more paranormal again or lighter contemporary.

These are the books I have in mind for my next reads and I’m calling them my feel good books. If you’ve read any of these let me know in the comments- and especially if there are any I should avoid or bump up the list.

1. Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill – Looks cute and fun and romantic, with a London setting and a mystery suitor.

2. City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare – Sequels are comforting, and the latest Mortal Instruments book should be a good escapist read.

3. A Midsummer’s Nightmare by Kody Keplinger – My daughter read this one and gave it her seal of approval. I liked The Duff, and I just read that some characters from that book appear in this one.

4. Storm by Brigid Kemmerer – This just looks fun, distracting, action-packed, and romantic – all good things.

5. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling – Though I’ve seen all the movies I’ve never read the books. (I KNOW) I figure now’s as good a time as any to remedy that.

6. Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard – This is a road trip / self-discovery book that I’ve heard great things about. The only thing I’m wondering is if it’s going to be very sad.

7. Such a Rush by Jennifer Echols – This one is about a girl who loves to fly to escape her difficult home life. Not sure if this one is more on the fluffy or dark side but it does look good anyway.

8. Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins – An angel book that readers seem to like. Good and evil, romance, fast-paced- I’ll give it a try.

9. Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday – I keep hearing how funny this mystery is, just what the doctor ordered.

10. Glitch by Heather Anastasiu – This is about a dystopian society where emotions that were suppressed start to glitch. It’s been a while since I’ve read any dystopia so that could be good.

Read any great feel good / comforting type books lately? I would love to hear your suggestions!

I am especially excited to get my hands on Storm. It sounds like a great book personally i think it reminds me of The Covenant. If you’ve seen that movie and liked it then i guess you’ll like Storm as well. Even though my opinion isn’t valid because i have yet to read it myself.
Jennifer Echols writes some awesome stuff. Give Such a Rush a try. I think it’s a perfect summer read.

Thanks, Sana! Storm and Such a Rush are looking really good to me right now too.

I would go for Harry Potter. Ideal escapism right there. Now is the time to finally read the books. πŸ™‚

Harry Potter does seem to be the popular choice. Thanks πŸ™‚

  3. Harry Potter is probably the perfect feel good book. There’s nothing like them. Wanderlove and A Midsummer’s Nightmare are also great feel good reads. May I also suggest Leila Sales’ books if you haven’t read them? They are hilarious but not fluff. It’s the perfect micture.

    1. Lucy says:

I haven’t read any Leila Sales yet, but I’ll look into getting them at the library. Hilarious but not fluff sounds perfect. I’m looking forward to reading all the other books you listed too. Thanks so much, Lori πŸ™‚

I love Harry Potter of course! Unfortunately I haven’t read any of the other books yet, but several are on my TBR list! Glad to see you back and best wishes to you.

    1. Lucy says:

Thanks so much, Brittany. I think Harry Potter will be just perfect.

  5. Oh I agree with the Leila Sales recommendation, they are great and so funny.

Also I’m pretty sure there’s nothing better than Harry Potter. They are so awesome and especially the first few are quite easy to read, even with all the themes going on, I find them quite comforting.

I really adored Wanderlove… I don’t remember it being especially sad, just a lot of self-discovery.

One thing I find great when I’m in a bad state is to re-read my favourites, especially the lighter/fun books. Like I think I’ve re-read Anna and the French Kiss 3 times already because if I’m sad I don’t want to risk a new book, so I go back to ones that make me happy.

    *hugs*

Thanks, Ashley! Leila Sales sounds like just the ticket. And I like your idea of re-reading some comforting books like ANNA. That’s one of the books I thought of too.

Glad to hear Harry Potter is comforting and Wanderlove is a favorite.

      Thanks again πŸ™‚

Go with Harry Potter! Past Perfect by Leila Sales, Paisley Hanover Acts Out by Cameron Tuttle, and the Ruby Oliver books are books I’d recommend.

    1. Lucy says:

Sounds good, Reut! I’ll look into all of these. Thanks πŸ™‚

I just finished City of Lost Souls… meh. Wouldn’t be the first on my suggestion list if you’re looking for a comfort book. Out of the books you’ve listed the only others I’ve read are Harry Potter and Wanderlove… so I’m gonna suggest both of those! Harry Potter would be great if you’re wanting just something to lighten the mood – it’s not all that dark and heavy. And it’s Harry Potter. Wanderlove is one of my favorite reads and really isn’t sad at all. It’s got a great story line, the setting is phenomenal, and the romance is wonderful.

Hope everything is going okay with you and your family. Miss you!!!!

Thanks for the feedback on City of Lost Souls, Candice – I can put that one off. Harry Potter and Wanderlove stand out to me too. Glad to hear they have your seal of approval. I was worried that Wanderlove would be a little too sad, so thanks for reassuring me that it’s not. Looking forward to reading both books even more now.

I’m taking things one day at a time and remembering good memories is helping. Thanks for checking in! πŸ™‚

  8. Hugs! I know exactly how you feel about being careful if what you read during this time. Three books come to mind-all three made me laugh out loud: Fly On The Wall by Maureen Johnson; Audrey,Wait by Robin Benway; Spanking Shakespeare by Jake Wizner. Sorry for not providing summaries – typing on my phone. Xo

    1. Lucy says:

Thanks for the suggestions! I adore Audrey, Wait but haven’t heard of the other two. Will look into getting them at the library. Wish I could read Second Chance Summer but I think that’s not the right book for me right now. Thanks again πŸ™‚

i actually haven’t read any of these except for harry potter though i think i want to read them all. i definitely love lighter books which is why romance and paranormal stuff can be so fun. i’d say go for meant for me which looks super sweet. have you read the statistical probability of love at first sight yet or any stephanie perkins? those books would be fun, light reads. and i really liked cinder if you are into sci fi.

  10. Kelsey says:

The only one on your list I’ve read is the Harry Potter, and it’s a good series. I’ve heard good things about a Midsummer’s Nightmare and Deadly Cool though!

I was so happy to see a post from you pop up in my feed, hope you’re ok, hun!

I have only read Such A Rush and it was great. I was really looking forward to Meant to Be but I’ve read a couple of reviews that have forced me to lower my expectations πŸ™
