Top Ten Books to set a holiday mood

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature from The Broke and the Bookish. This week is a TTT freebie week, and my topic is holiday books. 2012 has been a very challenging year for me, and I think I need to pull out all the stops to get in the holiday spirit this season. Hopefully some of these books will do the trick!

I know we were just talking about Halloween books so this post may be premature for a lot of readers. But, I don’t see holiday themed books listed in any upcoming TTT topics so I had to go for it with freebie week. I’ll just have to be the annoying book blogger that puts out the holiday books too early 🙂 Since I love a kindle deal, I noted the price when it is under $4.

Some of these holiday reads are old favorites, and there are also several I hope to check out this year:

1. Let it Snow: Three Holiday Romances by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle – I read this book last year and it’s really sweet; my favorite is Jubilee Express by Maureen Johnson. Hope there will be time for a reread.

2. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater – Not Christmasy per se, but it is a wintery book, and it’s on the list for sentimental reasons. It’s also my favorite of the Wolves of Mercy Falls books.

3. Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan – Very funny and kinda romantic holiday book, and one of my all-time favorites. Good audiobook too, and I’ll probably listen to it while I’m wrapping gifts and cooking this year.

4. Decked with Holly by Marni Bates – This is a new Fall title, and it’s the sequel to Awkward, and it sounds really cute and funny. I’m going to try to read both books back to back.

5. Jane’s Gift by Karen Erickson – A holiday romance novella about a woman who loses almost everything in a house fire, including her husband. Later she finds romance with the fire captain. A new release that’s only $2.99 for kindle.

6. Ex-Mas by Kate Brian -Road trip + Romance + Christmas = holiday goodness

7. Snowed Over by Angie Stanton – I was searching for a holiday New Adult title and finally found this novella. It’s a road trip book about two college students heading home for the holidays. Same formula for success as #6! And only $2.99 for kindle.

8. Snowed In by Rachel Hawthorne – A short holiday romance about a girl who moves to Mackinac Island from Texas. Sounds like a cute fish out of water story. Bonus: only $3.79 for kindle.

9. Mistletoe: Four Holiday Stories by Hailey Abbott, Melissa de la Cruz, Aimee Friedman, Nina Malkin – Romantic short stories set around the holidays. Hope they’re as good as the stories in Let it Snow.

10. Melt by Natalie Anderson -A romance novella set in Antarctica over Christmas. $2.99 kindle edition.

What are your favorite holiday reads? Have you read any of these books – which do you recommend?

I can’t think of a single Christmassy book I’ve read, although I have read Shiver! But, I need to make myself a summer reading list, hehe!

  2. I don’t think I’ve ever read a Christmas themed book around Christmas. I’ve had Let It Snow on my TBR for awhile. Maybe I should actually read it this year? 🙂 Great list, Lucy!

  3. Interesting list! Other than Shiver, I haven’t read any of these, but love the cover for Snowed In.

Just what the doctor ordered. I was already brainstorming what I was going to read to get in the mood. Sara @ The Librarian Reads love Regency Romances during the holidays. I’m going to look to squeeze in some of these too. Thanks for the deal-lo 😉

  5. I love holiday books and the holidays in general (aside from the actual shopping). My favorite reread in winter in Jane Eyre.

  6. I need to make a list with books for Christmas. It’s so much fun to read holiday books to get into the mood 😀 I will write some of your titles down!

i really loved Let It Snow, I think I liked the John Green one best. If you want a good Christmasy Adult novella, the Jaci Burton ones about the Kent Brothers are good.

Thanks for the holiday recs, Dixie! I’ll look those up.

  8. I’m a fan of Shiver 🙂 Such a wonderful story, love Maggie Stiefvater!

Great list! I just picked up Let It Snow from the library, but I haven’t read it yet. I will definitely check out some of the others from your list.

Oh I can’t WAIT to read Decked with Holly! I loved Awkward so much so I know this one will be just as cute! Hope you enjoy them both!

The Awkward series does look cute. I need to start reading asap.

  11. I love Shiver..I can totally see it as a winter pick! 🙂

  12. I really enjoyed Let It Snow! This is where I first learned about John Green — and that’s always a good thing. I haven’t read the others though — I think I’ll have to check them out.

Decked With Holly is really good but it can be read any time of the year.

I’ll have to check some of these out around Christmas. I don’t think I have really read many Christmas themed books. The only one I can remember off the top of my head is The Christmas Wedding by James Patterson and Richard Dilallo. It wasn’t a bad book, but it wasn’t as good as I hoped.

  15. Quinn says:

I want to read Let It Snow, too. Listening to it via audiobook is a great idea! I have read Decked with Holly, but I definitely liked Awkward better.
