Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Bringing Me

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature from The Broke and the Bookish. This week we are listing the books we want Santa to deliver!

The Darkest Minds book cover1. Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson – I checked this Peter Pan retelling out from the library but didn’t get to it before it was due. It sounds lovely and I do want to read it sometime.Tell the Wolves I'm Home book cover

2. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken – This is an X-Men style dystopia and it sounds really exciting.

3. Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt – A 1987 coming-of-age about a 14-year-old girl who lost her uncle to AIDS. It sounds like such a good emotional read.

4. The Diviners by Libba Bray – Think I’d prefer the audiobook of this one, even though it If I Lie book coveris 18 hours long! I’m seeing this one on a lot of best of lists, and it’s out of my comfort zone but I’m curious.

5. If I Lie by Corrine Jackson – This one is about a girl caught kissing another guy while The Almost Truth book coverher boyfriend is serving in Afghanistan. But things aren’t what they seem, and the girl could clear her name but won’t to protect her boyfriend. I’m really curious about this one!

6. Middle Ground by Katie Kacvinsky – I liked the first book in the series Awaken and would love to read the sequel.

7. The Almost Truth by Eileen Cook – A girl who dreams of getting out of her small town loses her hard-earned savings and comes up with a con to get Tilt book coverit back. Sounds cute. Unspoken book cover

8. Tilt by Ellen Hopkins – I just finished my first book by this author, Collateral, and want to catch up on all her books eventually.

9. Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan – This gothic mystery sounds fun and quirky.

10. Enshadowed by Kelly Creagh – I liked Nevermore and checked out the sequel from the library but didn’t get it read in time.

  1. you’re like me with the checking out the library and not getting to it in time. 🙂 this is a great list though. my friend just read an eileen cook book and loved it so i am definitely interested in checking out some of her stuff. i also love the cover to tell the wolves i am home. i keep eyeing that one when i go to the bookstore. unspoken looks great, too. i am sad i didn’t get one at sdcc. i think their booth had them, but i was so bogged down already that i didn’t get it. oh well that just means i can go support a bookstore and buy it. i hope santa brings you everything you wished for!

Thanks, Thuy! I don’t remember seeing Unspoken at sdcc, but I do want to make it a priority to read it soon. The cover of Wolves is great, and it sure sounds like a tearjerker.

  2. Oh Lucy, The Diviners is so amazing! I hope you get to read or listen to it. I would also like to read The Darkest Minds and Tiger Lily! They sound great.

If I Lie is probably the one I want to read the most so I’m glad to hear you say you enjoyed it, and Unspoken too 🙂

  7. Brittany says:

Great list, Lucy!! Go back the library and get Tiger Lily!!! It’s one of my favorites of this year. It was so beautiful!
Looking forward to The Almost Truth! That one looks super cute. I haven’t read Unspoken yet but I actually do have a copy. Now to find the time….

    1. Lucy says:

More time to read is what we really need from Santa this year 🙂 I will absolutely get to Tiger Lily soon. Thanks for the rec!

  17. Nafiza says:

I really liked The Diviners and The Almost Truth is pretty awesome too. Unspoken is compulsively readable until the end and I don’t know what happens there… But I’m so curious about Tell the Wolves I’m Home. I hope you get all these books eventually.

  18. Candice says:

Oh Tiger Lily! It’s so beautiful! The Diviners is really good too. I almost did the audiobook, but knowing the book itself was over 600 pages made me nervous to take on the audiobook. But after reading it, I think the audio would’ve been great too! And quirky is JUST the word for Unspoken! Hopefully Santa is good to you this year and brings you some great reads!

  19. The Darkest Mind and The Diviners are definitely two books I want. I forgot all about The Diviners. Definitely a great list here. Haven’t read any of them myself, but I’ve heard good things about quite a few of them. Great list! 🙂

  20. The Darkest Minds is so, so good! So is Unspoken.

    Awesome choices!

  21. Great list! I want tell the Wolves’ I’m home as well!

  22. squee1313 says:

I think I’ve mentioned to you before that I LOVED Tiger Lily. It was, for me, a grab you by the soul and hold on tightly book. You have to read it. I’ve already put The Darkest Minds on my list at the library. I’m reading great things about it; there seems to be a lot of good hype. We’ll see. I think I’ll have to give the Diviners a try, too.

  23. Quinn says:

I have If I Lie from the library right now. I haven’t read it yet, but I read Touched by Jackson and really liked it. Although If I Lie seems quite different, I’m excited to read it.

  24. Lovely list! I hope some (or all) of those books appear under your tree 🙂
