Top Ten 2013 Debuts I’m Excited to Read

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature from The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is debut books! I already listed 12 books I want to read for the DAC, so I thought it would be fun to list out 10 completely different books that have also caught my eye.

1. Fault Line by Christa DesirΒ Male POV about a nice guy who wants to help the girl he likes after a traumatic event.

2. The Reece Malcolm List by Amy SpaldingΒ  This sounds heart-warming and funny. The list refers to the things the main character knows about her mother, a best-selling author, who she never met before she relocates to LA to live with her.

3. The Symptoms of My Insanity by Mindy Raf – I’m laughing just reading the blurb to this one. The author is a comedy performer and her book is about a teenage hypochondriac named Izzy whose life is getting out of control. (The blurb says to imagine Woody Allen as a 15-year-old. Sounds funny, right?)

4. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell – This is Rowell’s (Attachments) YA debut and it sounds so cute. It’s 1986 and two misfits bond over mix tapes and comic books, and their romance is an escape from Eleanor’s troubled life.

5. The Rules for Disappearing by Ashley Elston – This is about a girl who moves around a lot and changes her name frequently since she’s in the Witness Protection Program. But she’s had enough and wants to do something about it.

6. Truth or Dare by Jacqueline Green – Three girls are involved in a high stakes truth or dare, with a mysterious someone sending them dares. Sounds a little like PLL.

7. Ink by Amanda Sun I like the sound of this one. A girl relocates to Japan after a family tragedy and suddenly starts to notice drawings come to life.

8. The Cadet of Tildor by Alex Lidell – I don’t read a lot of epic fantasy, but the premise sounds awfully good. Strong female heroine, gladiator games, political intrigue, etc.

9. Nantucket Blue by Leila Howland – This sounds like it has a good mix of friendship drama and romance. Can’t wait to read it this summer.

10. 45 Pounds by K.A. BarsonA bridesmaid wants to lose quite a bit of weight before the wedding. This book tackles body image with humor and sounds like something many will relate to.

What debut books are on your radar this year?

I guess I’ve been buried in my TBR pile that I haven’t checked out any debuts for 2013. I look forward to seeing what you think of the ones that stood out to you. Some unique premises, like Ink.

    1. Lucy says:

I know what you mean about the TBR, and the sequels competing for our attention too! Ink does look pretty good and I like the multicultural aspect.

  2. I read your blog post with some trepidation only because I knew I’d be adding to my TBR list after seeing your list. And yes, I’ll be adding a lot of these books to my pile, thank you! πŸ™‚ I’m so happy to see more comedy/humorous novels coming out! Audrey, Wait and Spanking Shakespeare were two that made me laugh out loud hysterically, but it’s been awhile since that any books done that again for me. (Books make me laugh, but those two books…OH! I was crazy laughing!)

    1. Lucy says:

I added several books to my TBR too from debut lists. Audrey, Wait is so funny and did whet my appetite for more humorous YA so yes that’s reflected a little on my list. Spanking Shakespeare sounds like a riot! Happy debut reading!

  3. Sunny says:
