Mailbox Monday #38

Mailbox Monday buttonMailbox Monday is a weekly event where we share our latest book arrivals. Join in to share your book loot and discover some new book blogs. Unabridged Chick is the host for February, so be sure to say hi and link up!

What did you think of the Oscars? Kind of a weird night but I was thrilled for Jennifer Lawrence and Argo.

I’ve been in a little reading/blogging slump for the past week, trying to find the right book to click with. Hopefully it blows over soon! I’m feeling a little under the weather and so that’s not helping matters. Maybe one of these new arrivals will help break my slump.

E-Books for Review:

Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker from Atria Books – If the title sounds familiar, it’s because this book had a lot of success as a self-pubbed book before getting snapped up by Simon & Schuster. New cover too!

Unremembered by Jessica Brody from Farrar, Straus, Giroux – Plane crash survivor has amnesia and has to remember her past before something horrible happens.

The Language Inside by Holly Thompson from Delacorte – A verse novel about a girl who leaves Japan to live in Massachusetts when her mom is diagnosed with cancer. It also covers post-tsunami Japan and the recovery efforts. I love verse novels, and the multicultural aspect appeals to me as well.

Levitating Las Vegas by Jennifer Echols from Pocket Star – A New Adult romantic comedy about a Las Vegas showgirl / magician’s assistant with paranormal abilities from one of my favorite authors! I’m sure this one will get me out of my slump, right?

Escape Theory by Margaux Froley from Soho Teen – I’m on the blog tour for this book and it looks like a fun read. It’s a Gossip Girl/ Pretty Little Liars type mystery set in a California boarding school.

Brother, Brother by Clay Carmichael from Roaring Brook Press – Billy discovers he has a wealthy brother he never knew about and sets off to find him.

Audiobooks:

Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys from Penguin Audio & Audiobook Jukebox – Set in 1950 New Orleans, a girl wants to leave town for college but is caught in a deadly mystery.

Enchanted by Alethea Kontis borrowed from the library – A fairytale mash-up, and Audies Teen finalist.

Book purchases:

Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha LaiΒ  – A verse novel about a girl who has to leave Saigon for America when the Vietnam War hits too close to home. Kindle edition is $1.99

Inbetween by Tara Fuller – This was a kindle daily deal for $0.99 – too good to pass up!

Happy reading! What books are you excited to read this week?

Maybe Echols will pull you out.

OR pick up something that has been hanging out on your shelf. Either humor or a good Urban Fantasy usually put me on the right track.

    1. Lucy says:

That’s a good idea. I have some humorous books and Urban Fantasy to try. I think I can’t focus because I’m sick, hopefully that’s it anyway!

  6. The Language Outside looks very interesting. Enjoy your books!

  7. The Language Inside sounds so good! I can’t wait to hear what you think of it.

  8. Out of the Easy keeps calling to me….enjoy your week!

I was happy about Argo, and seeing the shots of Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings makes me want to watch that one even more.

The host for the Oscars was….not funny, IMO. lol

      1. Amber Hughes says:

I hope you love it too! BTW, I meant to say I enjoyed Inbetween too. Blurred is the title for book 2 coming out in July. Lol! πŸ™‚

Oh man, I hate being in reading slumps. I always get in them right after I’ve been on a reading binge where everything I pick up is amazing. I am slowly getting out of a reading binge now.

Hope these books click. Happy reading πŸ™‚

    1. Lucy says:

Thanks, Quinn! I hope so, too. I have to go check out what books you’re binging on for some good recs πŸ™‚

  14. Merin says:

I picked up Inbetween this week as well! And I tried 3 different times to get through ENCHANTED and just couldn’t do it. There was simply TOO much going on, and too many fairy tales combined together. I hope you have better luck!

    Happy reading, Lucy!

    1. Lucy says:

Oh wow I hope Enchanted is not too confusing for audio! You’re making me nervous about starting it.
Hope we both love Inbetween πŸ™‚

      1. Merin says:

There is just a LOT going on in Enchanted. Plenty of people loved it, but those who didn’t (like me) all cite there being too many stories in one book. I do hope you end up being one of the former! πŸ™‚

  15. Unremembered looks good and so does Out of the Easy. I’m looking forward to reading Inbetween myself too. Great haul, happy reading, Lucy! πŸ™‚

  16. Elizabeth says:

    ENJOY all your books!!
