Happy almost New Year! I’m ready for the new year to begin – I love a fresh start. My mailbox has been pretty light lately, but I’m not complaining. I have lots of books to catch up on!

In my (digital) mailbox I received for review:

Such Sweet Sorrow by Jenny Trout – In this retelling, Hamlet and Romeo travel to the underworld to rescue Juliet’s soul.

Where You’ll Find Me by Erin Fletcher – This is about a girl who lets a runaway boy live in her garage. I want to find out what they’re both running from!

Seeking Her by Cora Carmack – This is a companion book to Finding It, from the guys pov.

Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy by Karen Foxlee – This looks like such a cute middle grade fairytale. It’s a spin on The Snow Queen, set in a museum.

I also scored some great kindle deals:

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes

Bully by Penelope Douglas

Question: Do you have any feel-good read recommendations? I’m looking for something light and funny and I’d love to know your favorite “happy” reads.

  1. I’m sure everyone and their mother would recommend this one, but Anna and the French Kiss really is a cute, light read 🙂 A bit of drama, but the romance is so sweet.

And I read Where You’ll Find Me last week – I can’t wait to see your thoughts on it!

Thanks, Kayla! Anna is definitely a go-to comfort read 🙂 And you’ve already read Where You’ll Find Me? It looks good!

It looks like you got some great books! As far as light and cute, have you read This Is What Happy Looks Like?

    1. Lucy says:

I sure have! That is a sweet read- thanks!

  3. I loved The Girl You Left Behind, hope you do too.

Light and funny, let’s see… I like satire so while these may not all necessarily be light they are certainly funny: Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, The Travel Auction by Mark Green, Lamberto Lamberto Lamberto by Gianni Rodari, Tancredi by James Palumbo.

Nice haul this week, Lucy. I almost got The Bone Season, too, but I already have the hardcover so I passed. And yay for more Jojo Moyes. I am hoping this is as good as me Before You.

Hmm light and happy? Not my usual thing but I do like Sarah Ockler for contemp and hers are pretty cute most of the time. I also read a lot of romances, which are angsty, but always have a happy ending. 🙂

  5. Love those Kindle deals. The Bone Season rocks.

Light and happy…I like Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman. Rachael Johns (Aussie author) does happy ending romance too. Kate Forsyth (another Aussie author) promises a happy ending too – she writes in a variety of genres.

    Happy New Year!

  6. Great looking books! Hope you enjoy The Girl You Left Behind…amazing read. I like the look of Where You’ll Find Me. Sounds really good….Have a great New Year, and thanks for visiting my blog.

I love the Bone season. Never thought I would say that, since it’s not exactly my favorite type of genre. But I did! Have not read any of the other books. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  8. Mary says:

  9. Such Sweet Sorrow sounds really cool!

Looks like you scooped up some great deals. I want to read The Girl You Left Behind, too. As for light reads, I just finished Elf Trouble by Sherry James. It’s a sexy seasonal romance novella. Very cute.

Thanks for stopping by The Busy Mom’s Daily.

  11. You have a wonderful mailbox! Happy reading for 2014!!

  13. I loved The Girl You Left Behind. I hope you do too. For something light and funny, how about Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Book Club by Robin Sloan?
