Mailbox Monday (92)

Mailbox Monday buttonMailbox Monday is a weekly event where we share our latest book arrivals. Link up and find new mailboxes to stalk at the Mailbox Monday blog!

Well, time flies and we are already halfway through April. This week I have jury duty, it’s tax week, I’m in spring cleaning mode, and I’m unfortunately in a mini reading rut. (I blame Gilmore Girls, my current TV addiction)

Here’s my week in books:

Purchased:

pointe

Pointe by Brandy Colbert – I really need to have Ballet week for all of these ballet books I’m acquiring! Pointe is about dance, eating disorders, and a mysterious abduction. And it sounds intense, and everyone’s raving about it!

Review e-books:

How to Build a Girl by Caitlin Moran – A coming of age novel set in the 90s about a teen who reinvents herself with a new persona and a job as a rock journalist.

Rumble by Ellen Hopkins  – Hopkins tackles religion in her latest – an atheist falls for a Christian girl, and is mourning his brother’s death.

The Misadventures of the Family Fletcher by Dana Alison Levy – This MG book is about a big family that includes two dads, four adopted boys and lots of pets.

We Are the Goldens by Dana Reinhardt – This book is about sisters and secrets!

Born Confused by Tanuja Desai Hidier – Born Confused first came out in 2002 and it’s coming back with a new cover to go with the forthcoming sequel Bombay Blues. Looks like a good coming of age.

Audiobooks:

summer state of mind

Summer State of Mind by Jen Calonita, audiobook performed by Eileen Stevens – This is a summer camp story and companion novel to Sleepaway Girls. Thanks Audiobook Jukebox and Blackstone Audio!

  1. Awesome books this week! I’ve not heard of them but they sound really good! Happy Reading! Here’s my StS if you’d like to stop by.

Another Ellen Hopkins? I need to catch up on her work!

    1. Lucy says:

      I know, right? She’s a fast writer!

  3. The Fletchers are delightful – I had such a great time reading that book. Just a fun cast of characters to hang out with. I absolutely can’t wait to read Pointe. How To Build A Girl looks appealing, too, though I’m struck by how the cover font looks so similar to The Bell Jar. Maybe it’s an obvious parallel? Anyway, looks like you’ve got some good stuff in your reading future.

    1. Lucy says:

Good eye, Sarah- yes indeed I think there is a Bell Jar connection. From the blurb: “Imagine The Bell Jar—written by Rizzo from Grease.”

Glad to hear you liked The Fletchers! Can’t wait to meet them 😉

  4. I listened to the audiobook of Born Confused and LOVED it. I’m so excited to hear that there’s going to be a sequel!

    1. Lucy says:

Ooh there’s an audiobook? Born Confused looks great- glad to hear you enjoyed it! Hope you like the sequel just as much. Looks like it’s out Aug. 26th.

      1. The audiobook was great. I felt the narrator made the story more authentic in a lot of ways and generally did an awesome job.

  5. I hate tax season! Enjoy your new books.

Ugh me too! Thank goodness for new books though 🙂

  6. Sorry to hear of your reading rut – I hope Gilmore Girls is making up for it though 🙂

  7. sagustocox says:

I hope the rut passes. The ballet book looks interesting

  8. These all look so good…and Summer State of Mind takes me back to the “lazy, hazy days of summer.” Probably a song before your time! LOL

I, too, am addicted to Gilmore Girls…I DVR it everyday, never having seen the original series, just bits and pieces when Soapnet was still on.

Enjoy your week! Here’s MY WEEKLY SUNDAY/MONDAY UPDATES

  9. Elizabeth says:

How to Build a Girl should be interesting. 🙂 I like the cover.

    ENJOY your reading week.
