Since Last Summer by Joanna Philbin spotlight and Beach Bag Giveaway

Today is Memorial Day, the unofficial start to summer. Woohoo! School is out this week for my kid and we’re excitedly making summer plans.  Do you have summer on the brain too?

One beach-ready book I read last year was Joanna Philbin’s Rules of Summer, a summer story set in the Hamptons about the haves and the have-nots, romance and friendship. There is a sequel out on June 3rd from Little, Brown called Since Last Summer, about another summer in East Hampton.

Have you read Rules of Summer? Here’s more about Since Last Summer if you’re curious:

SINCE LAST SUMMER by Joanna Philbin

Rory McShane should be excited to spend the summer in East Hampton with Connor Rule, her generous, smart, cute boyfriend. After all, Rory’s no longer the hired help at the Rule family mansion on the beach, and she and Connor have made it through a year of long-distance dating. But now, in the months leading up to college, Rory can’t help but wonder if she really belongs in Connor’s world.

Isabel Rule is still trying to get over Mike, the devastatingly sexy surfer who broke her heart last summer. Enter Evan, an aspiring filmmaker who’s kind, funny, and crushing on Isabel. He’d be the perfect summer fling — so why can’t she seem to forget about Mike?

Set against a backdrop buzzing with the rich, the famous, and the wannabe rich and famous, Since Last Summer, a companion novel to Rules of Summer, is the perfect beach read.

As part of a promo for Since Last Summer you have the chance to win a beach bag full of books and other goodies!summer plans

  2. Thank you for the giveaway!
This summer I’m going to the beach for a week with my parents, after having been away at school all year it will be nice to go back home and see them again.
I want to read a lot of stuff! I have a huge TBR pile that is calling my name so I’m going to try to blow through as many of those as possible.
Mostly, I just want to take it easy and relax at home after this long and stressful school year. 🙂

    1. Lucy says:

A week at the beach sounds lovely. That should help you unwind after a stressful year. Good idea to catch up on the TBR too!

  3. booknaround says:

Those book covers just scream leisurely summer, don’t they?

For me, I want to read: so many books!!! But definitely The Rosie Project because I’ve been eyeing it for so long now.

I want to see: Honestly I’m not a huge movie watcher so I don’t particularly plan on anything and just fly by the seat of my pants if it’s raining one day.

I want to go to: our cottage in UP Michigan and just laze around by the lake with my parents, my kids, and my sister’s family all around and being happy.

    1. Lucy says:

      They really do!

I think you’ll like the Rosie Project. And a cottage by the lake sounds perfect.

  5. I loved Rules of Summer! It was so nice to read a book that accurately portrayed the area where I grew up. I’m super excited to read Since Last Summer and also for the beach! Really I just want to be outside. And hopefully taking a trip with a friend to a tennis tournament, we used to go every year but skipped last year so I’m hoping we can get our act together for this year. And the If I Stay movie? I completely second that although it’s going to be a major cry fest.

    1. Lucy says:

I’m eager to check out Since Last Summer too. And oh yeah IF I STAY will be brutal. Are you going to reread first? A tennis tournament sounds very summery!

  6. Ann says:

I’d like to read Jenny Han’s new book and the Crimson Campaign. I’d like to see the second How to Train a Dragon, and I want to visit Seattle! =)

    1. Lucy says:

I’ve only been to Seattle a couple times but I’d love to go back. Hope you get to go! The How to Train your Dragon movie looks like a fun one!
