Top Ten Authors I Want to Read More From

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature from The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is the Top Authors I’ve Only Read One Book From But NEED to Read More. I looked over my Goodreads shelves to see which authors I’ve only sampled once to find the authors I need to read more from.

Why haven’t I read more of your books, authors? In alphabetical order:

1. Jennifer Brown – I liked Torn Away when I read it earlier this year, and think Hate List or Thousand Words look like my cup of tea.

2. Gillian Flynn – Of course I’ve read Gone Girl, but I want to catch up on Dark Places before the movie comes out.

3. Una LaMarcheLike No Other is such a fab book and I’m interested in catching up with Five Summers, and next year’s memoir Unabrow.

4. E. LockhartWe Were Liars was my first introduction to Lockhart and I want to read more to see what she’s all about. Maybe I’ll try The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks.

5. Patrick Ness – I’ve only read A Monster Calls from Ness, but have a feeling I’d like his Chaos Walking trilogy and More Than This.

6. Benjamin Alire Sáenz – Aristotle & Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe was my first introduction to this author. But he’s written a ton of other books too! I’m eyeing Last Night I Sang to the Monster.

7. Leila Sales – I’ve only read This Song Will Save Your Life (check out the new paperback cover!) I have a copy of Past Perfect to read next.

8. John Corey WhaleyNoggin is so great, and I need to read Whaley’s big award winner Where Things Come Back.

9. Wendy Wunder – I liked The Probability of Miracles, but still haven’t read The Museum of Intangible Things. It sounds so different from Miracles and I guess I just haven’t been in the right mood to try it yet.

10. Gabrielle Zevin – I loved The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry and need to catch up on Zevin’s other books. I do have a copy of Elsewhere, so perhaps that will be next!

Do you recommend I prioritize any of these authors/books? What authors do you want to read more from?

  1. I need to read Torn Away by Jennifer Brown. It’s the only one of her books that I haven’t read yet. I love her writing. I’d recommend Hate List! I should have put Gillian Flynn on my list too. I’ve only read Gone Girl.

  2. Gillian Flynn is a favourite author of mine, so I hope that you get to read Dark Places soon. That was my favourite book by her and a top 5 I’ve read this year. Hope you like it!!

  5. Gillian Flynn- (while her endings are not for me) if you liked Gone Girl then Dark Places should be your next by her. I think you would love it. Sharp Objects wasn’t quite as twisty but still had her very unique writing style. Yes I have read 3 books by a women who I want to throw a book at each time I end a story because she writes really well. I can’t help if we want books to end differently LOL

Love your comments on Flynn, Felicia! An author that inspires feeling (even throw a book at feeling) is A-OK in my book! Will take your suggestion and check out Dark Places.

  6. I agree on Una LaMarche! Glad to hear she has other books I can read. And I already love E. Lockhart and Gabrielle Zevin – so yay! More confirmation of our shared taste! I want to check out This Song Will Save Your Life!

I think you will love This Song Will Save Your Life, Debbi! And yes, yay for Una LaMarche. I feel like I’ve been missing out on so many loved E. Lockhart and G. Zevin books, especially since I know you’re a fan! Hope you are reading something awesome 🙂

Great list! Flynn’s other books are well worth reading, but I think GG is still my favourite. The only other book I’ve read on your list is We Were Liars, which I really liked, most of the others are on my TBR!

  8. Thanks for sharing your list. I haven’t read any on your list. I may add Gone Girl to my Netflix list. Maybe I’ll get to the book before the movie becomes available.

  9. I thought AJ Fikry was really good, too. I haven’t read any of Zevin’s other books so I need to catch up as well. I have both of Whaley’s books (signed!) and still have not read them. Have fun exploring these authors, Lucy!

  11. I haven’t read books by any of these authors except Gillian Flynn! I do want to read more of her stuff though (really liked Gone Girl and super excited for the movie). Aristotle & Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe is one I’ve had my eye on too – it’s gotten such good reviews!
