Who’s ready for summer?! To help get you into a summer state of mind, there’s a new Summer Days and Summer Nights short story collection from editor Stephanie Perkins! A couple years ago you may remember there was a winter collection called My True Love Gave to Me featuring your favorite YA authors. I may have both the US and UK editions of that collection because they are both so darn cute. Now there’s a summer collection with a new superstar author lineup. Hopefully there will be a new book for every season like the Gilmore Girls revival!

Summer Days and Summer Nights is on sale today. There’s something for everyone in this collection, from fantastical creatures to a wistful Valley-Girl-esque summer romance, to a dark carnival to a horror movie romance. I’m sure everyone will find something to entertain on those hot summer days. Reading short stories is also a great way to try out a new favorite author. Read on to hear more about Summer Days and Summer Nights.

(5) Favorite Stories of Summer

I enjoyed each of the twelve love stories though I thought I’d highlight a few of my favorites.

In Ninety Minutes, Turn North by Stephanie Perkins – This is a continuation of Perkins’ story from My True Love Gave to Me. It’s about Marigold and her crush North (he worked at a Christmas tree lot), reconnecting on a funicular tram.

Souvenirs by Tim Federle – This is Matt and Kieth’s breakup story. They are theme park coworkers which gives it a summery Adventureland vibe.

Inertia by Veronica Roth – This sci-fi story is about a girl saying goodbye to a dying friend through a mind visit. They revisit favorite memories and reveal their true feelings.

A Thousand Ways This Could All Go Wrong by Jennifer E. Smith – A sweet, surprising friendship-to-romance story set at a summer day-camp.

The Map of Tiny Perfect Things by Lev Grossman – This was a really sweet, romantic YA Groundhog Day! Mark is reliving August 4th every day, but he’s not alone- he’s experiencing it with Margaret. And together they try to find the tiny perfect things that happen every day.
