My rating: 4 of 5 stars

BEASTLY is a modern day retelling of a classic fairy tale. The setting is New York City, and sort of reminds me of Beauty and the Beast meets Gossip Girl.

This story had me hooked at the beginning with the funny online chat room of tortured fairy tale creatures such as The Beast, The Little Mermaid and The Frog as they deal with their love lives and how to break their curses. Through the online chats we learn the beast’s back story.

BEASTLY is a sweet, light hearted, touching story. It is nice to see the character growth of the beast character Kyle from someone reprehensible to a caring, thoughtful individual.

Overall, I thought the story was a fun quick read and I enjoyed this fresh twist to a classic tale. Can’t wait to see the movie to see how it compares.
