Mailbox Monday #13

Mailbox Monday is a weekly event where we share our latest book arrivals. Join in to share your book loot and discover some new book blogs. 5 Minutes for Books is the host for the month of August.

After a couple weeks of writer’s block I’m getting into the swing of reviews again, and reading some good books. Hopefully it was just the summer heat that was making me less interested in writing reviews- any of you ever feel unable to string the words together for book reviews? I’m glad I’m snapping out of it because I have a lot of books to write about!

These are the books I received for the past two weeks:

Purchased:

Rebel Heart by Moira Young – The sequel to Blood Red Road, not out in the US until Oct. 30, but I purchased the trade paperback from Fishpond.

Croak by Gina Damico – As of today, the kindle edition is still priced at $1.99

Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins – A kindle daily deal at only $1.99

Review:

Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake, narrated by August Ross – Audiobook provided by Audiobook Jukebox and AudioGo. I’m about halfway in this one and I’m intrigued. Good, creepy fun.

Of Poseidon by Anna Banks, narrated by Rebecca Gibel – Audiobook provided by AudioGo. A book about mermaids/Syrena that sounds fun and romantic.

The Talk-Funny Girl by Roland Merullo – A coming of age YA/Fiction crossover from Broadway Paperbacks.

My Book of Life by Angel by Martine Leavitt – This book sounds dark and gritty and I’m a little uneasy about the subject matter, but it caught my interest because it’s written in verse.

Emily’s Dress and Other Missing Things by Kathryn Burak – This YA mystery sounds fantastic.

Safekeeping by Karen Hesse – A dystopia that’s getting mixed reviews, it incorporates photos in the storytelling.

The Shadow Society by Marie Rutkoski – A fantasy about a girl from an alternate world who struggles to find out about her past and who she is.

Eve and Adam by Katherine Applegate and Michael Grant – I like the look of the cover a lot – it looks very Sci-Fi.

Shadows by Ilsa J. Bick – The second book in the Ashes trilogy.

Library:

Never Enough by Denise Jaden – This book tackles some serious topics like eating disorders and is also a story about sisters.

Story of a Girl by Sara Zarr, audiobook narrated by the author – I loved Zarr’s writing in How to Save a Life and have been wanting to read more from her.

Hope you found lots of bookish goodness in your mailbox this week!

I know what you mean, there are days I sit down to write reviews and I just can’t translate my thoughts into words!

What a great load of books! I really like the cover of Eve & Adam, I hope it’s good and I hope you love Story of a Girl, it’s amazing.

Croak was me intrigued. I’ve heard good things. I still haven’t read Ashes. Need to find time…maybe in October.

I wasn’t crazy about the audio narrator of Anna Dressed in Blood. Hope Girl of Nightmares is good 😉

  6. I get writer’s block sometimes when the reviews pile up. Often I get stuck on writing a review about book I loved. Then other times i spend too much time writing and not enough reading which is what I most enjoy – it’s a balancing act. So many books to choose from – enjoy!

Writing reviews is decidedly less fun than reading the books! I used to stay on top of it but, here lately, I don’t think I’ll ever catch up. Enjoy all of your new books!!

  8. I’m curious about Safekeeping…thanks for sharing, and enjoy! Thanks for visiting my blog.

i totally feel you on writing reviews. sometimes i just sit there trying to get one coherent paragraph out, and it’s not always easy. glad you’re getting back into the swing of things though, lucy. 🙂

  13. That’s really smart, ordering Rebel Heart through Fishpond. I definitely cannot wait to see what you think of that one.

    Happy reading Lucy!
