Top Ten Kick-Ass Heroines

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature from The Broke and the Bookish. This week we are listing our favorite kick-ass heroines! Before we get to the list, I want to say that I’m thinking of all of those impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Please be safe.

This list was surprisingly difficult to make, go figure. A few kick-ass heroines quickly came to mind, but I struggled reaching ten this week. We need more kick-ass heroines!

These book heroines kick-ass:

1. Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games series – She’s the first one I thought of and is in a league of her own.

2. Cinder from The Lunar Chronicles series – A cyborg Cinderella, strong and brave.

3. Rose from The Vampire Academy series – Badass may be a better word for Rose, she does what she wants.

4. Tris from the Divergent seriesΒ  – She is the definition of Dauntless.

5. Yelena from The Study series – Strong, intelligent and steadfast.

6. Alexia from The Parasol Protectorate series – Sharp, independent, brave, and unafraid to use her parasol as a weapon.

7. Saba from Blood Red Road – Brave, doesn’t give up, loyal, strong.

8. Celaena from Throne of Glass – Cunning, and a skilled assassin with a quick wit.

9. Karou from Daughter of Smoke and Bone – She’s a witty art student, but also doesn’t shy away from any dangerous missions.

10. Cat from The Night Huntress series – Snarky vampire slayer who is a force to be reckoned with.

What kick-ass heroines top your list?

  1. I love a book a lot better when there’s a kick-ass heroine! (Well, most of the time). Daughter of Smoke and Bone has been on my wish list for a long time and seeing Karou on your list makes me want to read it really soon! Great list!

      Can’t wait to read it!

  4. I almost felt sad that I haven’t read those books yet, but then I saw a book I’ve read. I love Alexia. She’s fierce! Like Tyra Banks fierce. lol.

I have Calaena on my list, but Karou is another great choice too! I really need to start that series with Cat in it, I hear it’s good πŸ™‚

I do think you’d like the Night Huntress series, Kelsey – I’ve only read the first 4 but they are enjoyable.

I absolutely love your choices! Katniss, Tris and Rose for sure. I’ve seen Poison Study pop up on a few lists too and it’s been on my TBR list forever! I really need to get to that one.

  8. Candice says:

Love all of these! There’s a few I haven’t read, but after your descriptions I really must read them!

  9. I totally forgot about Alexia, she deserves to be on the list. I’ve only read the first two, but she kicks ass in them – Cat too.

  10. Ahh, the Parasol Protectorate! Alexia is a great heroine, smart, strong, and very unique. I forgot about her πŸ˜‰

It’s nice to see Alexia popping up on some lists. She’s a great character!

  14. Great list! I really need to check out The Study series, I’ve heard some great things about it. I’ve only read 3 books from your list so far. Oops!

  15. BermudaOnion says:

Katniss is the only one of those I know!

  16. I am regretting not putting Cinder on their because I love her! Great choices!

Never heard of Cinder, but then you said “Cyborg” and I’m totally there! I’m reading The Girl of Fire and Thorns (possibly at your suggestion?) and Elisa is totally kick ass. She doesn’t start out that way, but she finds her steel and proves she has a spine. Also, since I just finished Tiger Lily, I have to say Tiger Lilly is pretty awesomely tough, too. She sticks up for what she believes in and stays true to herself.

    1. Lucy says:

I’m kicking myself for forgetting Elisa from Fire & Thorns. Maybe I’ll get to do a part two list one day. And I have seen Tiger Lily on a few lists today and that book sounds fantastic.

cat’s an awesome pick. the fighting between her and bones and book 1 is the best.

i am sad that i didn’t have cinder on my list. i guess she would have been #11 if i had more choices. yelena is a great pick as well.

thanks for sharing your ttt, lucy!

  19. oooh It’s hard to choose between Celaena or Rose! I really like Yelena as well. Great choices!

  20. Shelver506 says:

I keep hearing the Poison Study is great. Better bump it up my to-read list if the heroine is that cool.
