Where has July gone? It’s almost back to school time! I’ve been reading a lot lately, but haven’t felt like writing reviews so much. I need to figure out a way to make that more fun- I think it’s harder to keep up the motivation in the summer.
I’m excited about the books that made their way to me this week though!
Physical books received:
Canary by Rachele Alpine (purchase) – Canary is a debut novel written in a mixture of verse and prose and I’ve been looking forward to reading it. Didn’t realize it got released early! It sounds like a powerful story about high school relationships, privilege, and moral challenges.
Golden Boy by Abigail Tarttelin – This book has gotten really positive reviews and is a coming of age about gender identity.
Audiobooks:
White Trash Beautiful by Teresa Mummert from Simon & Schuster Audio – I’m listening to this now. It’s about a waitress named Cass living a hard life who meets the mysterious Tucker who sees something special in her.
Summerland by Elin Hilderbrand audiobook borrowed from the library – The cover looks carefree and summery but this book is about the aftermath of a devastating car crash.
World War Z by Max Brooks audiobook purchase – This audio features an all-star cast of celebrity narrators and sounds like a great way to experience the story.
eGalleys:
Out of Play by Nyrae Dawn and Jolene Perry – This NA book is about Penny is a hockey player who meets Bishop, a musician with a drug problem.
These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner – Really eager to read this one! It’s a romantic scifi, and was pitched as Titanic in outer space. Fun!
Foreplay and Uninvited by Sophie Jordan – Two very different books from the same author! Foreplay is the first book in the NA Ivy Chronicles trilogy. And Uninvited is described as The Scarlet Letter meets Minority Report.
Dead Ends by Erin Jade Lange – I liked Butter by this author, and this book is about the friendship between a bully and a boy with Down syndrome.
Keeping Her by Cora Carmack – Companion novella to Losing It where Garrick and Bliss go to London to meet the parents.
The Scar Boys by Len Vlahos – This is an 80s coming of age story about a disfigured and burned guy who plays guitar in a punk band. Sounds interesting to me.
Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick – From the author of Silver Lining’s Playbook- this book sounds like a downer but I’m intrigued.

wow what an awesome haul this week, lucy, i got the world war z audiobook a while back, too, but have not had a chance to listen to it. i hear that the audio is awesome though. canary also sounds really interesting. i haven’t heard of it before.
and i am excited to read the two sophie jordan books, too. i met her once at a signing and she was so cool that i want to read all her books.
i feel you about reviews. i totally should write one tonight but…we we shall see. have a good week, lucy!

Canary sounds interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that’s written in verse and prose. I’m intrigued by Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock. I hope you enjoy all of your books.
