Have you been doing any Holiday reading this year? It’s not too late to ring in the new year with a holiday novella!  Heating Up the Holidays is one of the books on my TBR, and today one of the authors in this anthology is here to tell us about her New Year- themed novella, After Midnight.  And as a special treat, Serena is sharing her NYE purse essentials for After Midnight’s Nora, contrasted with Serena’s own purse. Please welcome Serena!

Top five must-have purse essentials for New Year’s Eve with Serena Bell

Hi, there! Thank you so much to Lucy for hosting me today at The Reading Date! I’m very excited to be here as part of the Heating Up the Holidays tour. It’s been such a total pleasure to be part of this amazing collection of holiday stories, and to work with smart, talented, and super-supportive authors Lisa Renee Jones and Mary Ann Rivers. If you haven’t read it yet, Heating Up the Holidays is a bundle of three stories—a steamy, mysterious Thanksgiving story by Lisa Renee, a deeply emotional and lovely Christmas story by Mary Ann, and my New Year’s Eve story—I’ve been calling it a “reverse Cinderella tale”—After Midnight. In After Midnight, two strangers, Nora and Miles, share a kiss at midnight—and wonder if they’ll ever see each other again.

Lucy asked if I’d name the top five must-have things in my purse on New Year’s Eve, and I’m happy to do that, but as I was trying to think of what they’d be, it occurred to me that now that I’m in my thirties and married with kids, my purse resembles a romance heroine’s purse a lot less than it used to:

1. Nora’s purse: A cell phone. Places to go, people to see, and a hero with a Christian Bale mouth to track down.

My purse: A cell phone, just in case the babysitter needs to text me.

2. Nora’s purse: Driver’s license, because the elfin quality to her beauty means she always gets carded.

My purse: Driver’s license, even though I haven’t been carded since my daughter was born.

3. Nora’s purse: A pen, which she wishes she’d used to scribble down the name of the reticent but wryly funny hero whose name she also wished she asked before he fled the party with a bully on his heels.

My purse: A pen, which I use to make notes on all the totally awesome ideas I’m getting for next year’s holiday story …

4. Nora’s purse: A condom, because a bad breakup has left her just a little bit reckless.

My purse: A tissue one of my kids left there.

5. Nora’s purse: Lipstick, for touch-up after crazy, impulsive kiss with stranger smears hers.

My purse: Lipstick, for touch-up after tender, fabulously familiar midnight kiss with husband smears mine. (And despite the thrill of Nora’s situation, I secretly think I’m getting the best deal here!)

Part of the HEATING UP THE HOLIDAYS anthology

Published by Loveswept

ISBN: 978-0-8041-7840-2

The clock is ticking down to midnight on New Year’s Eve, and all Nora Hart and Miles Shephard can think about is kissing each other—even though they met just minutes before. Then, as fast as Miles enters Nora’s life, he’s gone… and she never even gets the name of the man she thinks might just be “the one.” One year later, Nora and Miles are reunited. The chemistry between them is just as strong as they remember. But Miles broke her heart once before—and this time around, Nora’s not sure whether she can give love a second chance.

About Serena Bell:Serena Bell

Serena Bell writes stories about how sex messes with your head, why smart people sometimes do stupid things, and how love can make it all better. She wrote her first steamy romance before she was old enough to understand what all the words meant and has been perfecting the art of hiding pages and screens from curious eyes ever since—a skill that’s particularly useful now that she’s the mother of two school-aged children.

About HEATING UP THE HOLIDAYS:

As leftover turkey and stuffing give way to stockings and little black dresses, this tantalizingly sexy eBook bundle offers up holiday-themed novellas from a trio of beloved romance authors. Lisa Renee Jones gives a dedicated reporter and a powerful businessman a chance to count their Thanksgiving blessings in Play with Me; Mary Ann Rivers presents Snowfall, the story of a woman who confronts a life-changing event—hopefully with a special man by her side—just in time for Christmas.

  1. That was cute! I am the DD this year so mine will have a camera to catch all my friends being crazy 🙂

  2. Lucy, thank so much for hosting me today! And thanks, Felicia! A camera’s a good one. I’m really bad about remembering the camera, even for my kids’ special performances. TG for the one built into the phone. 🙂

  3. Annie says:
