LGBT April Reading List

Better late than never, I’ve signed up to participate in LGBT April. LGBT Month is brought to you by Laura @ Laura Plus Books and Cayce @ Fighting Dreamer.  It runs throughout the month of April and it’s here to celebrate LGBT+ readers, authors and books. If you’ve been thinking about joining in, you can still sign up until the last day of April! Sign up details are here.

This event is a great opportunity to share recs, and highlight some great LGBT titles. During the event, participants can link up reviews, participate in Twitter chats and other discussions, read author guest posts and enter giveaways..

So, what are my plans for LGBT Month?

  • Review Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz – I listened to the audiobook last week and I’ll be giving away a copy too! If you are looking for LGBT books to read this month, I think this is an excellent choice!
  • Top Ten List of favorite TV Shows that feature LGBT characters
  • Round up of favorite LGBT Books
  • Read a few LGBT books- some possibilities are:

Beautiful Music for Ugly Children by Kirstin Crohn-Mills – This book won the 2014 Stonewall Award from the American Library Association, and I recently purchased a copy. This is a coming of age novel featuring a transgender protagonist.

Silent by Sara Alva – This M/M romance is positively reviewed on Goodreads. It sounds like a gritty, tough read, and I’ve been meaning to read it for a while.

Something Real by Heather Demetrios – This book is centered around a Reality TV show about a big family known as the Baker’s Dozen. The main characters’ brother is gay and their relationship sounds very sweet.

Better Nate Than Never by Tim Federle – I have this audiobook from the library and it looks fun. It’s a MG book about a boy who wants to go to New York to audition for E.T. The Musical.

Sister Mischief by Laura Goode – The protagonist is a lesbian Jewish hip-hop MC from the suburbs. I picked it up when it was a kindle deal at the beginning of the year. Looks fun!

Have you read any of these books? Which do you recommend?

I’m going to be reading Aristotle & Dante as well! I’ve heard such great things about it- I don’t think I’ve come across even one negative review 🙂
I actually borrowed Something Real from the library the other day, and wow I had no idea there was an LGBT aspect to it! Might have to review it for LGBT April haha
