When 17-year-old Paige Townsen gets plucked from obscurity to star in the movie adaptation of a blockbuster book series, her life changes practically overnight. Within a month, Paige has traded the quiet streets of her hometown for a bustling movie set on the shores of Maui, and she is spending quality time with her costar Rainer Devon, one of People's Sexiest Men Alive. But when troubled star Jordan Wilder lands the role of the other point in the movie's famous love triangle, Paige's crazy new life begins to resemble her character's.

In this coming-of-age romance inspired by the kind of celeb hookups that get clever nicknames and a million page views, Paige must figure out who she is - and who she wants - while the whole world watches.

Do you love YA book to movie adaptations and get as caught up in the drama on set as the drama inside the pages of the book? (Robsten anyone?) Famous in Love takes the reader behind the scenes into the making of a new YA blockbuster, complete with an epic love triangle (on screen and off).

Paige Townsen is the unknown actress chosen to star in the hottest new YA trilogy “Locked” (of which she is a fan). She never imagined she’d be in the middle of a fictional/real love triangle between two of the hottest actors in Hollywood. She’s as eager as the fans to find out who Paige chooses in the soon to be released final book in the trilogy…

Maybe it’s from growing up in Hollywood but I like reading about movie gossip and the Hollywood movie set goings on. The “Locked” set is located in Maui and the island setting adds to the glamour and mystique of it all. Paige is the outsider who has never done any professional acting but somehow lucked in to “Locked”. Through her eyes we see her learn her lines, deal with the press and unimpressed directors, confess to her makeup artist, and try to maintain her friendships with those left behind. Plus, you know, there’s some guy drama…

I have a love/hate relationship with love triangles but I thought this one was so much fun. The two guys competing for Paige’s affection are Rainer and Jordan, both hot actors that are no stranger to the tabloids. Rainer takes Paige under his wing and shows her the ropes on set. He’s flirty and nice, and Paige is definitely flattered by his attention. Jordan shows up a little later. He’s Rainer’s rival, and has a bad-boy reputation, but has killer chemistry with Paige. The way the action in the movie “Locked” mirrors real life is a blast, and reminiscent of other celebrity on-set romances. Though many on-set romances came to mind when I was reading this book, this is the one I was most reminded of:

A fun bonus to the Famous in Love experience is that author Rebecca Serle actually wrote a book called “Locked” under the pen name of “Locked” author Parker Witter. You get very little of the actual “Locked” story in Famous in Love but the book did whet my appetite to find out more so I had to buy the ebook. I’m reading “Locked” now but I bet it would make Famous in Love even more enjoyable if you read it first.

I listened to the audiobook of Famous in Love, performed by Tara Sands (Easy, Pushing the Limits). Sands perfectly captures Paige’s voice and personality, and makes the audiobook as addictive as the story. I know from listening to Easy that Sands is good with voices and making male voices sound realistic, and happily that is the case here as well. Sands’ pacing is good, and her voice is clear and pleasant to listen to. I’d definitely continue the series in audiobook form.

Fans of love triangles, movies, and Hollywood gossip will swoon for Famous in Love! This is the first book I’ve read by Rebecca Serle, and this book makes me eager to catch up with her other books. Famous in Love is the first book in a trilogy – stay tuned for book two next fall.

  1. Love triangles are fun to read about/watch but I really do wonder how often they happen in real life. This book still sounds like fun.

  2. Okay these seems so much fun. I think the audiobook will be right up my ally. I really like Tara Sands. I don’t usually like love triangles, but I think I will take a risk and read this.

  3. Rebecca says:

I can deal with love triangles if they do it right. From reading your review and the fact that Rebecca Serle actually wrote the book that is mentioned in her other book I think I might put this in my maybe list
