Top Ten (Bookish) Goals for 2016

bookish goals 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature from The Broke and the Bookish. Happy New Year, friends! This week we are sharing our bookish resolutions!

I love a fresh start and always kick off the year with ideas to make this year better than the last. There are lots of things I want to do this year but I also want to keep it realistic too so I don’t get overwhelmed and burned out.

With that in mind, here are my Top Ten Bookish Goals for 2016:

1. Read 130 books – That was my goal for 2015 and I actually ended up reading 152 books. It still feels like a good number for me to strive for.

2. Read more backlist – There are several 2014-2015 books sitting on my shelf unread. I’d love to catch up on some of the titles I missed.

3. Continue to utilize the library – Books are expensive, and the library makes it so easy to try out new titles, especially audiobooks.

4. Take a year off reading challenges – The only challenge I’m participating in officially is the Goodreads challenge. I’m bad at keeping up with reading challenges and the recapping that goes with it.

5. Cull those bookshelves – I’m donating some books this week and with limited bookshelf space I need to do that on a regular basis.

6. Freshen up the blog – Delete posts that are no longer relevant, update useful, popular posts, organize categories, etc.

7. Branch out – Write more discussion posts and other useful posts. My reviews are not the most popular posts by a long shot so I need to brainstorm other content ideas.

8. Be selective on review books– It’s easy to get overwhelmed with review copies and blog tours. I want to keep that manageable and keep up to date on Netgalley reviews.

9. Read what I want – Sometimes that means breaking up with a series that I no longer enjoy or re-reading an old favorite instead of the hottest new release. I never want reading to feel like reading is an obligation or a chore.

10. Balance – Give myself a break if I need it and don’t stress about it. Focus on health and exercise and get walking with an audiobook.

What are your bookish resolutions?

  1. The library is a fantastic resource to take advantage of! 🙂

    Check out my TTT.

  2. I could definitely do with freshening up my blog too! Good luck with your goals.

  3. I’m not doing any reading challenges this year either! PHEWF. I found them a bit stressful last year and I couldn’t really keep up with doing all the posts. Oh oh and reading more backlist titles = a marvellous idea. and me too for the library! I LOVE my library but sometimes I forget to use it because I get too caught up with ARCS…but they come with pressure too, so I’d like to read more library books and just chill about the whole thing. xD

  4. Backlist is something I am going to try and focus on this year, I am alright at it but one can always be better. The more books I read on my shelves the more I can buy 😀 This also helps with culling my books. I find this one very difficult. I got rid of a couple of shelves of books when I moved interstate but I have yet to get rid of any since then. I only really like to get rid of books I hate and lately there has not been too many of those… Which is also a good thing. I think I might just buy more shelves lol

  6. These are great goals. As I was reading through them I found myself nodding. I want to use the library more often this year and get rid of posts that are no longer relevant.

  7. These seem like achievable goals! I’m sensing a trend in blogging goals this year, to be a little more relaxed about blogging in general and to keep the stress out of it. I think we’re all realizing just how much time it takes to keep a blog going, and for something that you do for free, you have to really love it:-)

Great goals! I think it’s very important not to stress about blogging or reading because it can turn into a chore and become less enjoyable. Audiobooks are great. I used them for my daily commute and also while taking long walks. Hope you have an amazing year!

OK, as a librarian I might be a bit biased here, but I’m very happy to see so many bloggers resolving to use the public library more this year, yay! Librarians are also reader’s advisory experts, so they’re a great resource when looking for a great new book to read or something similar to a book you enjoyed. Most of us are book nerds, too 🙂

Some great goals for 2016! Hope you achieve all of them.

#8 and #9 are on my list too! When I first started blogging I signed up for every tour, review, cover reveal, etc and it totally burned me out. It also led to my issue of not getting to read books I really wanted to. I felt obligated to read books that I didn’t end up enjoying and I wasn’t getting to read the books I really wanted to read! Great post!

These are all good goals! I’m all for keeping balance and blogging with pressure too. I also want to do more discussion posts because that encourages more interaction with fellow readers and bloggers. I think with reviews, it’s easier for people to skip them unless they’re really interested in the title you’re reviewing. Good luck to both of us in 2016! 😀

  13. These are all great goals, Lucy. I love using the library. As you know, the local branch is pretty sweet and I have been going there a lot. I need to cull my shelves, too, and read some old backlist. It’s hard with all of the new books coming out but the guilt at having so many unread books is hard.

Good luck with all of your goals this year, Lucy!
