Audiobook Bloggers Week – Wednesday Where

audiobook bloggers week

It’s day four of Audiobook Bloggers Week! Miss Pippi at Adolescent Audio Adventures put this event together, and all week we will be celebrating all things audiobooks! Visit Miss Pippi to get the #AudiobookBloggersWeek schedule of events and find new audiobook bloggers to follow.

Today’s prompt: Audiobook Resources

#WednesdayWhere – Where do you go for audiobooks? What format is available? Do you have a favorite audiobook format?

where to get audiobooks

Audiobooks can be an expensive habit, but there are definitely affordable ways to listen and not break the bank.

I prefer to listen to mp3 format on my phone, through the iBooks or the Audible app. I do sometimes receive audiobooks for review, but these are my main audiobook sources:

The public library – If you have access to a library either in person or online then you can access audiobooks for free! Libraries have taken notice of audiobook popularity and make them available in a variety of formats. I belong to 3 different library systems in my city so I usually have no problem finding what I’m looking for. Use Worldcat to find an audiobook book at a library near you.

Overdrive – My library partners with Overdrive digitally to provide audiobooks. This is where I obtain probably 90% of my audiobooks. You can even recommend pre-publication audiobooks for your library to purchase and then they are checked out to you when they release. Here’s what’s in my listening queue:

hoopla – I don’t use hoopla so much, but with this library service you can stream audiobooks, movies, music, ebooks, comics and TV shows. There are no waiting lists for titles, and the selection is quite good.

OneClickDigital – This library service allows you to check out Recorded Books ebook and audiobook titles.

Audible – The Audible app is my favorite, and I love their sales. The one-credit plans allows you to download one audiobook a month and get 30% off audiobook purchases.

Amazon Whispersync for Voice – Some Kindle books can be matched with audio companions for a discount! Go to Amazon Matchmaker to see which of your kindle books are eligible for audio upgrade. I use this service a lot, and in fact just added an audio upgrade while I was testing the link for this post!

Audiobook SYNC – SYNC is a free summer program that offers 2 free YA audiobooks every week. Check back in May 2017 when the program resumes!

Scribd – I have dedicated two lengthy blog posts about this service so I won’t get into all the pros and cons. This subscription service allows you to borrow a certain number of ebooks and audiobooks per month for a flat fee.

Audiobooks.com – Here you’ll find a $14.95 one-credit plan and an app,

Downpour – Membership is $12.95 and gets you one DRM-free audiobook download or you can rent audiobooks for 30-60 days for $7.95.

Highbridge Audio and Tantor Media – They have frequent audio sales for downloads and CD’s.

Where do you get your audiobooks, and what format do you prefer?

  1. Since I got my Audible subscription for Christmas last year, that’s the only way I get audio books. I love it!

Thanks for sharing an assortment of audiobook locations! My top place to go is the library as well. 🙂

    1. Lucy says:

I would expect so! The library is a great resource for us audiobook junkies.

  3. I belong to Audible.com and get the one credit for month plan, and since I read so many ebooks, a lot of times I can get the audiobook for so little!

Yes! The audiobook matchmaker feature is a great deal. I’m on the one credit plan too, but end up getting more audiobooks through whispersync.
