I’m happy to be the next stop on the All We Have is Now blog tour! In Lisa Schroeder’s latest book, two homeless teens have to decide how to spend their last 24 hours on earth. I love books set over 24-hours and this end-of-the-world set-up makes for an intense and emotional read. Read on to find out more about the book and enter to win a copy of the book for yourself.

all we have is now

What do you do with your last day on earth?

Just over twenty-four hours are left until an asteroid strikes North America, and for Emerson and everyone else who didn’t leave, the world will end. But Emerson’s world already ended when she ran away from home. Since then, she has lived on the streets, relying on her wits and on her friend Vince to help her find places to sleep and food to eat.

The city’s quieter now that most people are gone, and no one seems to know what to do as the end approaches. But then Emerson and Vince meet Carl, who tells them he has been granting people’s wishes — and gives them his wallet full of money.

Suddenly, this last day seems full of possibility. Emerson and Vince can grant a lot of wishes in one last day — maybe even their own.

I like Lisa Schroeder’s brand of contemporary YA- she weaves poetry in her stories and writes sweet, emotional reads. All We Have is Now is set in Portland and is about two homeless teens. Their world comes crashing down with the news that an asteroid is just 24 hours away from destroying the earth. How do they spend their last remaining hours? If you’re Emerson and Vince you focus on random acts of kindness and how you can make other people’s last hours just a little bit easier.

Emerson and Vince are interesting characters that have been through a lot. They each have some family skeletons in the closet and now they have each other to lean on. The end of the world scenario brings some romantic feelings to the surface – and hey, it’s now or never, right?

This is a story of connections and coincidences. At the beginning, Emerson and Vince just feel hopeless and are tempted to end their lives on their own terms. But a stranger gives them hope and inspires them to help others. This takes them to unexpected places and helps them to find out the true meaning of family. Each new connection and “Make-a-wish for the Apocalypse” inspires Vince and Emerson to go on and live for the “now.”

For an end-of-the-world story, All we Have is Now is quite inspiring.

Make-A-Wish-for-the-Apocalypse

There’s just a little over 24 hours until a meteor is scheduled to hit the US. What do you wish for?

You know that movie Seeking a Friend for the End of the World starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley? I kept thinking of that movie while reading this book because you get to see the very extreme reactions people have when they get the news that the world is ending. Some people make their last day’s one giant party, while others continue going to work as usual, and some try to reconnect with past loves and family. I think I’d just want to spend the last day with loved ones and probably do some drinking to help forget the world is coming to an end.
