Sadie Kingston, is a girl living in the aftermath. A year after surviving a car accident that killed her friend Trent and left her body and face scarred, she can’t move forward. The only person who seems to understand her is Trent’s brother, Max.

As Sadie begins to fall for Max, she's unsure if she is truly healed enough to be with him — even if Max is able to look at her scars and not shy away. But when the truth about the accident and subsequent events comes to light, Sadie has to decide if she can embrace the future or if she'll always be trapped in the past.

Hello, dear readers! Today I’m excited to be the next stop on The Lies About Truth tour. Courtney C. Stevens’ sophomore novel is a story about friendship and grief. Contemporary fans should put this book (and author) on their radar! Read on to find out more about the book and don’t forget to enter to win a copy for yourself.

In The Lies About Truth, Sadie is a girl dealing with the scars left behind after a devastating car accident. She lost a friend in the crash and her relationship with the other crash survivors will never be the same. The physical scars left on her body keep her from living life the way she used to, but a list of goals and some help from some supportive friends guide her on her path to finding herself again.

I really enjoyed this author’s debut Faking Normal so I was glad to get a chance to read this one. It’s clear from reading both books that the author has a knack for realistic fiction and making you feel the emotions that the characters are going through.

In this book there are two cars and four friends involved in the accident. Sadie and Max were riding with Trent (Max’s brother) in the accident that took Trent’s life, and in the other car were Gray and Gina. Gray was Sadie’s boyfriend, Gina was her best friend, and the two had some feelings for each other. See how it gets a little twisty? So, Sadie is not only mourning her friend, and the scars left behind, but also the relationships she lost in the aftermath.

Sadie retreats after the accident and is homeschooled for a time. But now she’s going back to high school ready or not. She wants to put herself out there again but can’t believe people can see past her disfigurement.

There is a little mystery in the novel with someone leaving notes in Sadie’s mailbox. These notes are secrets that she would hide in her stuffed animal Big at home- who is sending them and how do they know these secrets?

Sadie has a lot of people in her corner to help her through the darkness- her family, friends and therapist. I cheered with Sadie as she marked each task off her list. Sadie’s story is relatable and inspiring, and the romance is sweet and root-worthy. A satisfying read overall, and I look forward to this author’s next book.

I always think it’s fascinating reading contemporary YA stories, because I like seeing the different perspectives and angles authors can take. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything quite like The Lies About Truth, and that definitely intrigues me. I might just have to check out this book – and this author!
