Top Ten Books Read in 2011

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish featuring a new top ten list each week. Everyone can participate- head on over to their blog and sign up.

This is the time of year to reflect on the favorite books of the year. I’ve been putting off making the list as long as possible just in case some more favorites sneak in. And, what do you know- one of the books on the list I just finished yesterday.  Making the list I noticed more contemporary titles at the top of the list. Last year was the year I was hooked on paranormal and dystopian, but now contemporary is becoming one of my favorite genres.

These are my top 10 favorite reads of the year, listed in reverse reading order:

5. Flat-Out Love by Jessica Park Smart, witty, surprising, romantic and charming. Read it!

6. Forbidden by Tabitha SuzumaI know this book is not for everyone, but I found the story very gripping and powerful. Couldn’t put it down.

7. Blood Red Road by Moira Young – A unique voice, original, fast paced and action packed.

8. Divergent by Veronica Roth  – Great story and characters. One I enjoyed so much I read the book, and later listened to the audiobook (also excellent).

9. Chime by Franny Billingsley – Magical, unique and funny. I loved all the quirky characters, the beautiful writing and the inventive story.

10. The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab  – Gorgeous, eerie, and captivating. Loved this suspenseful fairytale-like story.

Did any of these books make your list? Any books you recommend I check out?

None of these books made my list, but Lola made it on onto the honorary mentions. Great list, most of these books are on my TBR pile. There are just too many good books available and not enough time.

I must read Chime! If only because I’m the librarian and I have the library copy and I’m keeping it from my students 🙂 I’m waiting on Daughter of Smoke and Bone from the public library, too, and I need to look in to Probability of Miracles because I’ve been seeing it a lot…and I love the cover.

You definitely will enjoy Clockwork Angel
And Clockwork Prince; supernatural fiction plus Victorian England equals awesome! I have both Lola and Daughter of Smoke and Bone on my to reads for 2012. :). Happy New Year!

  16. I also had Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Forbidden – loved them both! I had Anna instead of Lola but really I liked them pretty much the same, I chose Anna because it was first so fresher to me. I’ve been meaning to read Graffiti Moon for so long, so I must get to it in 2012. Nice list!

  17. Michael says:

Divergent makes my list as well. I still need to read the Near Witch and can’t wait to. =] Awesome list. =]
