Mailbox Monday

Mailbox Monday is a weekly event where we share our latest book arrivals. Link up and find new mailboxes to stalk at the Mailbox Monday blog. I post my mailbox hauls about twice a month.

Here are some of the books that have made their way to me this month:

mailbox monday dessert first into white

Dessert First by Dean Gloster from Merit Press – This tearjerker is about how a family deals with cancer. Kat’s 12-year old brother Beep is dying of leukemia and meanwhile she’s dealing with a lot of school drama.

Into White by Randi Pink from Feiwel and Friends – This is our YA Diversity Book Club pick for September. In this debut, LaToya attends a mostly white high school and has a rough time of it. She wishes for a change and wakes up to find she’s now a blonde, blue-eyed white girl. This book explores issues of race, class and identity and we should have a lot to discuss about this one.

mailbox monday all the ugly and wonderful things the boy who killed grant parker

All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood from St. Martin’s Press- I received a few copies of this one so check back for a giveaway this week!  This summer buzz book has been hit with labels like controversial, taboo, uncomfortable, and haunting. That just makes me want to read it more, how about you?

The Boy Who Killed Grant Parker by Kat Spears from St. Martin’s Griffin – Luke goes to live with his Baptist father in Tennessee and has trouble fitting in. He goes from zero to hero overnight, though, when golden boy Grant Parker is sidelined. But Luke is hiding a secret about Grant that threatens his newfound popularity.

Interesting selection! I’m really intrigued by Into White, the approach seems a bit interesting but maybe risky (as you said, I’m sure there’ll be a lot to discuss!) And I’ve been seeing All the Ugly and Wonderful Things everywhere lately, and I’m getting more and more interested in it.
