Forgotten Sins by Rebecca Zanetti Audiobook Review

Forgotten Sins is the first book in The Sin Brothers series, about a band of brothers with special powers. One of the brothers, Shane, returns home to his wife after a two-year absence with no memory of his time away. Can Josie welcome him back in her life? And plus, who is trying to kill them and why? This book has lots of action (in and out of the bedroom), and has a fun mystery to solve. This is not my usual type of read but it was a nice change of pace!

Book Summary:

His secrets can destroy her…

From the moment Josie laid eyes on sexy, mysterious Shane Dean, she was in love. Their desire ignited a passionate affair, and within weeks, Shane had slipped a ring on her finger. It seemed her every fantasy was coming true…until her new husband disappeared without a trace. Now, two years and one broken heart later, Josie is shocked when the hospital calls: Shane has been found…at a crime scene with no memory of how he got there.

Her love can save him…

Shane can’t remember the blue-eyed angel at his bedside – or who he even is – but he knows something isn’t right. His hearing is razor sharp, his physical strength incredible, and the urge to protect Josie overwhelming. For powerful enemies are hunting him, and Josie is the key to discovering why. As Shane struggles to unravel his past, dangerous new truths come to light. Can he protect the only woman he’s ever loved? And can Josie trust a man she thought she knew – one who carries such a deadly secret?

Forgotten Sins starts off with a mystery and hooked me right into the story. Josie fell hard for her husband Shane but with him out of the picture she had been trying to move on with her life, and has a successful career. But Shane’s return brings back all those old feelings.  Shane is a man on a mission, and doesn’t remember Josie exactly but knows he’ll do anything to protect her.

Josie is strong (don’t call her soft!) and wouldn’t mind doing the rescuing herself thank you very much. Guys keep underestimating her and she’s had it. But at the same time it’s nice for her to have Shane around again, and maybe it’ll be different this time around…

Shane is also strong, smart and self-assured. He doesn’t like this shady guy that’s been hanging around Josie and won’t let her out of his sight. He starts out your standard classic alpha male type, genetically built to be the ultimate soldier. But his strong will tests his ties to his mission.

There are some interesting secondary characters in this story. One is the put-upon too smart for his own good cop Malloy who seems to always be around. I do hope he’s a recurring character in the series. And of course we meet some of Shane’s brothers, the focus of future books. Tom, Josie’s friend, is a character I’ve seen enough of but something tells me he’ll be back.

This book keeps you guessing until the very end. I did figure out a couple of the twists, but I’m interested to see how they play out in the sequels.

Karen White performs this audiobook, and this is my first experience with her narration. White actually reached out to me to see if I’d be interested in listening to this series. Truthfully it made me nervous that I wouldn’t like the book and then things would be awkward. But, thankfully that wasn’t the case. White’s performance conveyed the right tone for this story and made the action come alive. Josie’s voice sounded appropriately weary because of all of the crazy stuff happening around her, and the performance evolves with the character, as Josie gets feistier later in the story. I liked White’s male voices in this book- very convincing and not overdone. Malloy, Shane, the brothers, and Tom all had distinct voices. I’d stick with the audio for the sequel.

Listen to a sample of Karen White performing Forgotten Sins:

Read Forgotten Sins if you like: Alpha Male Books, military theme, lots of action and suspense, steamy romance

The sequels Sweet Revenge and Blind Faith are available in e-book format now, and should be available in audio format soon.

So glad you liked it! I do think Sweet Revenge will be out soon – that recording is all wrapped. Nate’s story will be awhile, though 🙁 they are waiting for the paperback version. So it should release early 2015.
