#YADiversityBookClub 2nd Anniversary Giveaway and Summer Reading Suggestions

YA Diversity Book Club

In the YA Diversity Book Club, we chat about the latest YA books that celebrate diversity. This month we’re celebrating our 2-year anniversary! Read on to find out what we read this past year, get some recs for summer reading, and enter an awesome preorder giveaway featuring 3 of our favorite YADBC authors.

Over the last year we’ve read these 9 books together:

I wonder what we’ll read next! We are taking the summer off of book club for our individual summer adventures, but we’ll be reading in the meantime on our own of course. Read on for some recommended summer reads, including a few by book club author favorites.

Summer Reading Suggestions:

Mirage by Tracy Clark – In this thriller, Ryan is a thrill-seeking skydiver, but after a brush with death she has to find herself again.

When We Was Fierce by E.E. Charlton Trujillo – This verse novel is about survival in the face of gang violence.

The Smaller Evil by Stephanie Kuehn – Arman goes to a healing retreat in Big Sur for help with his anxiety but gets enveloped in the mystery of the retreat leader’s death.

The Shadow Hour by Melissa Gray – The second book in The Girl at Midnight trilogy promises more action, drama and romance.

Outrun the Moon by Stacey Lee – It’s San Francisco in 1906 when a historic earthquake destroys Mercy’s Chinatown home and school.

You Know Me Well by Nina LaCour & David Levithan – This LGBT coming-of-age is about friendship and first love. Also, for the next 2 wks David Levithan will donate $1 to The Trevor Project for every copy sold. Great cause!

Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit by Jaye Robin Brown – In this book about faith and sexual identity, Joanna meets the perfect girl for her but has promised her minister father to keep the fact that she’s a lesbian under wraps while they settle in at a new town.

Run by Kody Keplinger – Bo and Agnes are two small-town girls on the run in this road-trip novel.

What’s on your Summer TBR?

Giveaway

To celebrate the 2-year milestone for the YADBC we are holding a preorder giveaway! The three of us have each chosen a book to giveaway by an author we’ve previously featured. One winner will receive all three books! I’ve chosen to giveaway Nicola Yoon’s (Everything Everything) latest book The Sun is Also a Star.

About the Book:the sun is also a star yadbc giveaway

Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.

The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?

The Sun is Also a Star is on sale Nov. 1 from Delacorte.
