Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 Books I would like to see as movies

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish featuring a new top ten list each week. Everyone can participate- head on over to their blog and sign up.

This week’s topic is Top 10 Books I’d like to see be made into movies. Many times a movie version of a book doesn’t live up to the book version. I would hope for the best that these 10 would translate well as films:

1. Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan – This book is set in New York during the holidays. Many New York landmarks make an appearance and it has the potential to be a lot of fun.

2. If I Stay by Gayle Forman – I think at one point this was going to be made and may still be in development. It could be amazing if all the right elements come into place.

3. Heist Society by Ally Carter – When I read this teen heist book it was easy to visualize it as a movie.

4. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins – It would fun to see Anna’s adventures in Paris on the big screen.

5. Delirium by Lauren Oliver – This dystopian romance has a great story that could appeal to teens and adults.

6. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – I think this one may be in the early stages of development. It’s a great story with action, romance, friendship, and vampires of course. Are people ready for another vampire franchise?

7. The Iron King by Julie Kagawa – Faeries, action, romance, with great characters. I’m skeptical that it could work as a movie, but it would be a blast if done well.

8. Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson – A road trip romance with an awesome soundtrack. This could be a great Summer movie.

9. Nevermore by Kelly Creagh – The goth and the cheerleader story set in the world of Edgar Allen Poe. Maybe a Tim Burton movie?

10. Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver – This book already reminds me of two favorite movies – Mean Girls and Groundhog Day. This is another one that I visualized as a movie and think it would make a successful film adaptation.

In terms of upcoming book movies, I’m really looking forward to The Hunger Games movie next year. So far the casting is controversial, but I hope they can pull it off.

LOVE your list! Dash and Lily made my list, and I almost put The Iron King on it!

  2. Love your list – I think I’d love to see most of these adapted for the big screen

It’s funny, I haven’t read like any of the books you’ve listed, but I’ve read enough about them to know that I’d definitely go see most of the movies, especially If I Stay, Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares, and Before I Fall 🙂 Sounds like a great list.

I can’t wait to see Delirium as a movie! Great list!

  5. Terrific list. I have Dash and Lily and Iron King on my list and I so would love to see Anna and the French Kiss, Before I Fall, Delirium, and well all the rest of your choices too!

I haven’t heard of any of these books but excited to check them out. Cool post!

I def agree with number 4 and 6. I’m sure I heard about a VA movie, finger’s crossed!

    1. It looks pretty good for a VA movie, and time will tell about Anna! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Talk about coincidence! I was putting my list together this morning and I asked my partner what books she’d choose. Her first choice? Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares! I’ve got it sitting here next to me as my next one to read and my partner flew through it. Going by the synopsis alone it sounds like it would be a good adaptation, especially if a comparison to Nick and Norha’s Infinite Playlist is anything to go by.

I’d check out Vampire Academy in film even though by the end of it I was a little annoyed with the series. It’s still an interesting story.

    1. Your partner has good taste in books! Looking forward to your thoughts on Dash & Lily.
      Hope Vampire Academy works out!

  9. Excellent list and I’d love to see all of these movies! I’ll have to think about my own picks though.

  10. I can see Book of Dares as a movie. I’d surprised if it was not made into one.

Here’s my post for today’s Top Ten Tuesday.

  11. After Lord of the Rings, I was always hoping somebody would get to Roger Zelazny. Lord of Light could make a really great movie (actually, I had an idea for doing it as two movies, straighten out the chronology and it would work quite well). Or the Amber books. Actually, This Immortal could make a good movie, too.

    1. I’ll have to check out Roger Zelazny’s books sometime. They look like they would translate well as Sci-fi films. Maybe it will happen!

  12. Lisa says:

Vampire Academy is on my list too. I can’t wait to see who they would pick for Dimitri!

  13. Thanks for visiting 🙂 The Iron King could be challenging to make into a movie, but I agree that it could be so much fun!

Before I Fall is one of my favorite books EVER! Except I sort of hate Groundhogs Day. Great list. I don’t know if I would love Anna and the French Kiss as much in movie form? I think it would have to be AWESOME casting.

    1. Yes, I think Before I Fall has a better shot at having a successful movie. Anna may be hard to translate and find the right cast. At least we have two more books in the series!

  15. Book Nympho says:

I’m dying to read Heist Society and the plot does sound like it would make a great movie. Most of the others I haven’t heard of though but will have to add to my TBR now! 🙂

    1. Heist Society is a fun book! There’s a sequel due out at the end of June. Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  16. Ashley says:

‘Anna’ would be so awesome as a movie, yet it’s one of those books that is So Good that seeing it on film just wouldn’t be as good… could an actor version of Etienne be as lovely? I just don’t know.

‘Vampire Academy’ = a big YES. This movie just NEEDS to happen, because the books are just so amazing. They deserve even more attention, I think. People (like me, who ignored them for forever) need to give them a chance.

‘Amy and Roger’s’ could be really good, I think. I love anything about a road trip, and there hasn’t been a really good movie that’s too similar in a while.

    1. You’re right Ashley- Etienne’s character is so specific in the book. I think it may be hard to find the right actor.

I’m hoping they can pull off Vampire Academy!

I’ve seen Anna and the French Kiss on lots of people’s lists. Must mean I’m missing out on something awesome. 🙂

  18. Hira Hasnain says:

Awesome list. I couldn’t agree more with your picks. I’d personally also like to see what they’d do with “Wither” – not because the effects or anything would be unique, but to see the camaraderie of the sister-brides played out on screen.

  19. Geosi says:

I would be interested to see how they come up with a movie on Vampire Academy. Cheers!
