Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 Authors I’d Die To Meet – Comic-Con edition

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature created by The Broke and the Bookish featuring a new top ten list each week. Everyone can participate- head on over to their blog and sign up.

This week’s topic is Top 10 Authors I’d Die To Meet. I’m making this list the Comic-Con edition since I will be there next week and may have the chance to meet some of these authors through panels and signings. I would be thrilled to meet:

2. Marie Lu – Her debut book, the dystopian Legend, has been getting some good buzz. Hope to see her at the No Damsels in Distress Here panel.

3. Stephanie Perkins – I loved Anna & the French Kiss, and Lola & the Boy Next Door is one of my most anticipated books. Looking forward to seeing her at the What’s Hot in YA Fiction panel.

4. Anne Rice – I would be thrilled to meet the legendary Anne Rice, author of The Vampire Chronicles, my first vampire series. She will be at SDCC signing her comic Servant of the Bones #1.

5. Rachel Caine – Her Morganville vampire series is one of my favorites, and I was sad to miss her at last years Comic-Con. She will be at the Immortality panel. I would love to know her plans for the Morganville series and what she’s planning next.

6. Kiersten White – The author of Paranormalcy and the forthcoming Supernaturally. Paranormalcy is such a fun book and I’ve heard good buzz on the sequel. I would love to see her at the Diversity in Young Adult Works and What’s Hot in YA panels.

7. Malinda Lo – Would love to meet the author of Huntress and Ash and see what she’s working on next. Looking forward to her Diversity in Young Adult Works panel.

8. Laini Taylor – I enjoyed her book Lips Touch: Three Times and am eagerly anticipating Daughter of Smoke and Bone. She will be attending the What’s Hot in YA Fiction and High School Bites panels.

9. Scott Westerfeld – He has had such an interesting career and I’d love to hear what he’s up to. He will be on several panels, including his own called Building the World of Leviathan: an Illustrated Steampunk Series.

10. Mira Grant – I’d like to meet her and find out more about the Newsflesh trilogy. She is on an interesting panel: Writing the Apocalypse: Genre Authors Explore the End Times (And the Fun That Comes After!)

Bonus:

11. Veronica Roth – Her dystopian debut Divergent is one of my favorites of the year. She will be at Comic-Con at the Summit booth to promote her book and the upcoming movie adaptation.

There are many more authors I’d like to meet at Comic-Con but that’s a good start. It’s such a huge event that I’m not sure I’ll be able to actually meet any on this list, but it will be fun to see them in panels anyway.

What authors are you dying to meet?

  1. Great list. Hope to get to go to an event like this.

    1. It is fun to go to book events. I haven’t had a chance to go to too many before. Hope you get to some signings or author events soon.

      Thanks for commenting!

  2. This one is kind of a gimme for me, since my “favorite writer” (if I have such a thing) is Thomas Pynchon, who has never made a public appearance or given an interview, and hasn’t been photographed since his college yearbook. So, I am curious.

But I’d hesitate to meet him if it became possible (and it won’t, obviously). What if he was a jerk? What if he was really weird and creepy?

And certainly, if I did get a changce to meet him, he probably wouldn’t want to meet me.

I’d hesitate. I’ve known people who met their idols and were really disappointed. Public appearances, yes. I’ve seen a few great writers speak and it was always interesting. But not meet face to face.

    1. That certainly would be something to meet Thomas Pynchon. You’re right though, sometimes it can be disappointing meeting public figures in real life. Seeing writers speak at public appearances can satisfy your curiosity but also keep the mystery alive.

      Thanks for your comment!

  3. I recently met Marie Lu at the LA YA in Bloom event. She’s such a sweetheart. <3 I can't wait for the book! Seriously, am foaming at the mouth for it and I can't seem to find an ARC anywhere.

But I also agree with you for the rest of your list. You like Mira Grant too? D: MARRY ME NOW.

    1. That’s awesome that you met Marie Lu at YA In Bloom. I should have gone to that! Check out the LEGEND movie Facebook page. They have giveaways occasionally and that is how I snagged a copy of the ARC. I think there’s another giveaway coming up soon when they get 700 likes.

Ooooh Comic-Con! I’ve always wanted to go! Unfortunately I’m not as close as you are. Distance across almost the whole US and then into Canada makes the travel a bit of an issue. 😉 But yah, I’ll be there one year, I swear. =b

Meeting Stephanie Perkins would be so awesome, I’m sure. There are very few books that I get jealous of people having early, but ‘Lola’? Oh yah, it’s definitely one of them.

    1. I hope you do get to Comic-Con someday. It is madness though, in a good way! BEA would also be fun to attend.

Oh yes, I’m right there with you dying to read LOLA.

      Thanks for commenting!

Have fun at Comic-Con. I would be waiting to see Rice and Westerfield for sure.

Come visit me at The Scarlet Letter.

Ah! I had no idea that Comic-Con was going on this weekend or that it hosted awesome authors!

I would love to meet Stephanie Perkins, out of all those authors whose books I’ve read, she is the top one.

But in general, I would kill to meet John Green. And possibly get him to sign my forehead.

    1. That would be great to meet John Green- I hope you do someday! Comic-Con is next week July 20-24th. I am happy that there are a lot of awesome authors there too – who knew?

  7. Nikki-ann says:

I hear Jim Butcher will be at Comic Con and there’ll be early copies of the new Dresden Files book, Ghost Stories. Ah, if only there wasn’t an ocean between me and there!

    1. Thanks for the tip! I’ll have to look for Jim Butcher there. Hope you attend some cool bookish events this summer 🙂

  8. Ahhhh jealousy! Have a great time, look forward to reading the wrap-up. 🙂
