I’m joining in a handful of reading challenges in 2013. Some of these will push me out of my comfort zone a bit and I’m excited to try something new. Click on the challenge badge to learn more and/or join in!
In 2012 I’ve listened to 40 audiobooks, and I may get to 41 if I finish the one I’m listening to now. I’m joining the Audio Book Challenge for the second time, and I’ll try to match my 2012 total and join the “Married” challenge level (25 or more). Titles are TBD.
New Adult is a category I have grown to love this year and I want to continue to explore this sub-genre in 2013. I’ll try the Moving Out level, which is 10 books, though I suspect I’ll read more.
1. Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire
2. Reckless by S.C. Stephens
3. Losing It by Cora Carmack
4. Crash by Nicole Williams
5. Taking Chances by Molly McAdams
6. Charade by Nyrae Dawn
7. The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden by Jessica Sorensen
8. The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski
9. Life on the Edge by Jennifer Comeaux
10. Fallen Too Far by Abbi Glines
The Eclectic Reader Challenge is the challenge for readers who want to mix it up with a variety of different genres. The goal is to select, read and review a book from 12 different categories. I need to do a little more research to find titles to go with some of the categories – let me know if you have any suggestions!
1. Translated fiction
2. Historical mystery
3. Romantic suspense
4. Made into a movie – Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion
5. New Adult – Levitating Las Vegas by Jennifer Echols
6. Urban Fantasy
7. Dystopian – Prodigy by Marie Lu
8. Memoir – Chanel Bonfire by Wendy Lawless
9. LGBT – The Miseducation of Cameron Post by emily. m. danforth
10. Action Adventure
11. Humor
12. Published in 2013 – Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
There are several books I didn’t get a chance to read this year, so the Catch Up challenge is perfect for this purpose. I noticed many of these titles on best of the year lists and I can’t wait to check them out:
1. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth E. Wein
2. Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor
3. Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
4. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
5. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
6. Grave Mercy by R.L. LaFevers
7. For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund
I read about 25 debuts in 2012 and maybe I’ll do it again. The goal is to read and review at least 12 books by debut authors:
1. Altered by Jennifer Rush
2. Dualed by Elsie Chapman
3. Pivot Point by Kasie West
4. Poison by Bridget Zinn
5. The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd
6. Me, Him, Them, and It by Caela Carter
7. The Nightmare Affair by Mindee Arnett
8. Mila 2.0 by Debra Driza
9. Chantress by Amy Butler Greenfield
10. The Beautiful and the Cursed by Page Morgan
11. Nobody But Us by Kristin Halbrook
12. How My Summer Went Up in Flames by Jennifer Salvato Doktorski
Are you participating in any reading challenges in 2013?
Ooo, so awesome. You certainly have added lots of variety to your reading for the new year!
Oh and if you want translated fiction, you could read Ruby Red or its sequel. It counts!
Ooh thanks, I’ll pencil it in! I haven’t read Ruby Red yet.
these look like really fun challenges. i kind of suck at challenges though so i will probably sit out any official challenges. i do have some goals in mind for 2013 though.
Hopefully I can keep up the momentum..we’ll see! Hope you reach all your reading goals next year.
Color me impressed! 🙂 My only goal each year is number of books read – and as writing is my main goal every year, I tend to make a low goal of 50 books a year. (I’m at 65 give or take a few pictures books, right now). Maybe I’ll up it to 100 for next year? Dare I? Cheering you on with your reading challenges next year! Looking forward to your great recs!
You can hit 100- I have faith in you! Especially if you mix it up with MG and picture books. Looking forward to chatting about books with you in 2013!
Okay! You convinced me! I’m making 100 books read a goal for 2013! 🙂
Thanks for joining my challenge, Lucy! I also love the sound of the Eclectic Reader Challenge. I am going to check that one out!
I’m also participating in the 2013 Debut Author Challenge. I think I might have to sign up for the Audiobook challenge too. I have been listening to quite a few this year. Good luck!
Have fun with your challenges!
You’re amazingly focused and organized, Lucy–I am such a pantser, I would never keep track of all this. I love seeing these lists, though–it’s awesome to see what people have accomplished this year!
I noticed you had done a lot of audios, which is fantastic. I recently started listening to them again, too (although nowhere near as many as you did!) and really enjoyed it.
Awesome year, and looking forward to seeing how you’ll dazzle in 2013, hee hee.
We’ll see how it goes and if I stay focused and organized 🙂 I’m definitely a mood reader but I do want to focus on reading the books I have. And hopefully this list will remind me to read a lot of these books that are hiding on my kindle!
Glad you’re enjoying audio..it’s a good way to fit in more “reading” time. I’m surprised that my audio % is as high as it is though.
Hope you have a wonderful 2013 and I’m looking forward to reading your fab reviews as always!
These challenges look like a lot of fun! I loved How My Summer Went Up in Flames, and I’ll have to check out the other books you have on your lists!
Alice @ Alice in Readerland
Yay! Really great challenges Lucy! I really like the eclectic and catch up challenges; I need to do a catch up one of my own! My shelves are FULL of books I’ve bought but haven’t read yet! Maybe I can clean them up some this year! 🙂 Good luck to you!
The only challenge I am participating in is the one where I try to read as much as possible. I went through periods this year of either reading in every spare moment, or hardly reading at all. Every spare moment is the goal! 🙂
Welcome to the Eclectic Reader Challenge and good luck!
I really like the idea of the eclectic reader challenge. Hmm, might have to give it a try. It’d be nice to switch different genres now & then. I do have some ideas for UF (Since I am a UF Junkie).. if you liked Kelly Keaton, I would suggest her alter ego, Kelly Gay. Her worldbuilding is pretty awesome and Charlie Madigan is a smart heroine. If you haven’t read the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews ( a husband & wife writing team), it’s a damn good series to date. Jenn Bennett also has really good books, with a magician named Arcadia Bell.
Thanks so much for the UF suggestions! I haven’t read too much in that genre though I adore Richelle Mead’s Georgina Kincaid series. The Kate Daniels series does look good. I’m also considering the Iron Druid Chronicles or The Dresden Files.
YES!! lol Those two are awesome .. I don’t think you’d be disappointed if you picked up either of those two. Solid, FUNNY characters, a quick pace, intricate worldbuilding. Nice choices.
These challenges sound great, Luce! I’ll be doing the AWW2013 but I might have to join one of these.
AND, I can’t wait for your to read Code Name Verity!!
Awesome challenges!! I’ve signed up for the DAC again, and I think I’ll probably do the New Adult one again too.
Great challenge choices for this year! I chose two to do this year, a TBR pile and a Bingo one, I think 2013 will be lots of fun!
