What to Read in May: New Releases To Watch For

May brings an exciting assortment of new releases, from debut authors to established series. I’ve already pre-ordered half the titles on this list & the only problem is finding the time to read them all. These ten books are on sale the first two weeks of May, and with so many great options it was certainly hard to narrow down the list. Here are 10 books I have my eye on in May:

Insurgent by Veronica Roth (May 1) – Finally, right?

Shine by Jeri Smith-Ready (May 1) – The final book in the Shade trilogy

The Vicious Deep by Zoraida Córdova (May 1) – The first book in a series about a merman. Lots of interesting sea creature type books coming out this month, and this one looks like a lot of fun.

Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins (May 1) It’s about angels, but I’m cautiously optimistic.

Until I Die by Amy Plum (May 8) – The sequel to Die for Me – more revenants!

Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson (May 8) Been waiting for this one for a long time- Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour is a big favorite of mine & I hope Matson’s second book is just as great.

In Honor by Jessi Kirby  (May 8) – How can I not read this- one of the characters is inspired by FNL’s Tim Riggins. I’ve just started an FNL re-watch too but I’ll have to stop watching to read this one.

Hemlock by Kathleen Peacock (May 8) – I’m a little hesitant because it’s about werewolves, but have heard other good things about it.

Struck by Jennifer Bosworth (May 8) – Religious cults and a lightning addict- I am intrigued.

Gilt by Katherine Longshore (May 15) – A historical fiction debut about the court of King Henry VIII.

What are your May must-reads?

I’ve read Insurgent but none of the rest, I’d really like to read Second Chance Summer and In Honor!

  2. I adored In Honor. Reading Struck right now and I’m at that “eh” stage, but maybe it will get better.

Glad to hear you adored In Honor! I will make that one a priority.

Struck has been getting some controversial attention about the religious themes so I’m wary but still giving it a shot. Will look out for your review.

There’s so many good books coming out in May! I have Insurgent pre-ordered, and a few others that aren’t on this list. Will definitely be checking out some of these from the library though 🙂

Shine is at the top of my list! Can’t wait for Amazon to ship this one out! Also on my TBR is Sweet Evil, Hemlock, & Second Chance Summer 🙂

Me too, Amber. The early word on Shine is good – let’s hope we agree!

  5. I’m anxiously awaiting UNTIL I DIE and SECOND CHANCE SUMMER (Thanks to you for the heads up). Already pre-ordered. Now I must add IN HONOR! Loved FNL! Thanks for continuing to add to my towering pile of books to read! 🙂

Yay- can’t wait to compare notes with you. And yes, In Honor sounds like a great match for you as well. Glad there are some good contemporary books coming out this month!

The insurgent wait finally ends! I am also really excited about gilt and struck. It’s a good book month. 🙂

  7. SO (so, so, so, etc) excited for Insurgent and Shine. I kind of wish I hadn’t preordered them from Book Depo despite the great prices because it means I’m going to have to wait even longer for them. I also pre-ordered Second Chance Summer because I also adored Morgan’s first book. I really hope that one will be great too. Most of those others sound pretty awesome as well, especially In Honor.

Can you believe that list? There aren’t enough days in the month! I’ve already read Hemlock, and it’s very good!

Thanks for visiting my blog! Happy Reading!

I can’t wait for so many of these! Insurgent looks better than Divergent to me, which is good because for me the first book didn’t really live up to the hype. I found Struck a little disappointing as well. But Hemlock, Gilt, In Honor, and Second Chance Summer look great!
