Top Ten Tuesday is an awesome feature fromΒ The Broke and the Bookish and brings you a new top ten list each week. This week the topic is Beach Reads!
When I think of summer books I first think of something light and fun, maybe with an exotic flavor to it. I’m not opposed to a little action or drama though, as long as there’s a great story that I can escape in.
Listed in no particular order, here are my top 10 books to bring to the beach:
First off are 5 tried, tested and true summer favorites:
1. My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick – You’ll fall in love with the family next door along with the main character Samantha. An intense book about first love and family, and it features a summer setting.
2. Tokyo Heist by Diana Renn – This mystery will appeal to fans of Heist Society, and anyone interested in art or Japan.
3. The Disenchantments by Nina LaCour – I’ve mentioned this book before but have to give this lovely book another push. It’s a road-trip book about a girl band, takes place over the summer, and has a male pov. Doesn’t the cover have a great retro summer vibe?
4. The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy by Jenny Han – I listed this on last year’s beach book recommendations, but they really are addictive summer reads. The setting, romance, and the characters make these books beach bag worthy.
5. Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen – I’ve only read a few books by Sarah Dessen, but with their summer settings and contemporary themes, these quick reads would be perfect for a day at the beach. Along for the Ride is particularly charming.
Next up are 5 Books I can’t wait to read in my beach chair:
6. Onyx by Jennifer Armentrout – The sequel to Obsidian will be out August 14th and promises to be even more exciting, funny, romantic and action-packed.
7. Reunited by Hilary Weisman Graham – A road-trip friendship book that sounds like a lot of fun.
8. For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreund – A dystopian romance inspired by Jane Austen’s Persuasion. I’ve preordered this one and can’t wait to read it.
9. A Midsummer’s Nightmare by Kody Keplinger – This book is set in the summer and features a flawed main character whose dream summer plans turn into a nightmare.
10. Insignia by S.J. Kincaid – This dystopia is due to hit shelves July 10 and sounds like a fun, thrilling ride.
What books are you taking to the beach this summer?
Great approach. I don’t have 10 beachy looking reads on my shelf, but I have a lot of books I’d like to take to the beach.
Some of these sound really good, definitely adding a few to my TBR list
Now if I can only make it to the beach. I hope to read the Summer I Turned Pretty series this summer.
I haven’t read any of these, but they all look like great books to stick in my beach bag! Must start planning a trip ASAP! π
Sigh. I’ll be adding a few more books to my list thanks to you! π I am due to take a break from reading YA (I’m tackling a major revision of my own novel and tend to switch genres to reading adult fiction during a major overhaul of my own work), so I suspect these books will be piling up! Can’t wait to read some of these! And I heartily agree with you RE: Jenny Han and Sarah Dessen!
Along for the Ride is on my list this week too (along with some other bloggers!) It was my first Sarah Dessen novel! I also want to read My Life Next Door so bad, it sounds like such a good read! π
I definitely want to read Onyx and a Midsummer’s NIghtmare! The other few you mentioned sound like awesome reads for the beach π
Haha, 10 beachy reads was a struggle for me, since I 1.) don’t go to the beach and 2.) don’t own/read a lot of beach worthy books. I like how you organized your list! I do want to read The Summer I Turned Pretty, though…I’m always seeing it on TTT lists.
Ooh very nice list! I just put a bunch of these on my TBR list π
Can’t wait to read Onyx. I’m going to the Daemon Invasion tour TOMORROW!!! π So excited and I’m gonna get me a copy. woo hoo!! http://www.readersconfession.blogspot.com
Tokyo Heist is definitely calling. Great list and I’ve enjoyed looking through your site.
Great choices. I am gonna add to my already LONG tbr pile!! Come check mine too:
Here is my Top Ten post!
i haven’t read any of these except the Jenny Han, but I’m desperate to read the new Kody Keplinger book. Love her. Also love Diana Petrefreund, loved Secret Society Girl. and I have the Disenchantments on my dining table, need to get to that soon! great list! ~dixie
so many of these are on my to read list sometimes I wish I could just read faster!

here’s my TTT
Think I need to add The Disenchantments and Reunited to my list – a road-trip double!
I like the way you split up this list! AMNS is a really good beach read. And Reunited seems like a good one too! I’m also planning on reading The Disenchantments this summer and I think I’ll really like it.
The disenchantments one is calling me for sure! And you’re right…the cover says it all as far as beach read potential goes!
these all sound like fantastic beach reads. i really need to read the disenchantments soon, the cover screams summer to me. and ahhh for onyx. sept is so far away.
Ah!! Tokyo Heist is out this week!! I almost forgot! I remember thinking it was “soooooooo far away” but it’s already (insanely) almost mid-June! Thanks for the reminder, and great mix of books! Will have to check some of those out for sure π
Thanks for stopping by π

I’ve only read 2 of these (Jenny Han, Sarah Dessen) and I want to read at least 4 others that you listed! Summer reads are always so much fun, although with the weather here at the moment, they’ll make me sad because it’s cold and rainy π
Along for the Ride has made its way onto a lot of Top Tens this week. I’m definitely going to have to read it π
Can’t. Wait. For. ONYX!!!
I bought My Life Next Door but haven’t read it yet.
My blog – http://bookbloggermom.blogspot.com
I already had SEVERAL of these marked to read! I read Along for the Ride over spring break and loved it-it was my 1st BUT NOT LAST Sarah Dessen book! π
