Mailbox Monday (85)

Mailbox Monday buttonMailbox Monday is a weekly event where we share our latest book arrivals. Link up and find new mailboxes to stalk at the Mailbox Monday blog!

For Review:

The Moon Sisters by Therese Walsh – A coming of age magical realism novel about sisters. Looks good! Thank you Crown Books.

Capricious by Gabrielle Prendergast – A verse novel and sequel to last year’s Audacious. This might be the first “verse series” I’ve read! Thanks to LibraryThing Early Reviewers and Orca Books.

Rock It by Jennifer Chance – The first book in the Rule Breakers series about a romance between a rock star and a fangirl. I’m on the blog tour in March so you’ll hear more about this book soon. Thanks to Random House Loveswept.

 Purchased/Borrowed:

Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith – This sounds like a weirdly wonderful book, check out the blurb: “In this truly shocking, grotesquely original coming-of-age, end-of-the-world novel, sixteen-year-old Austin Szerba interweaves the legacy of his family’s history in Poland and immigration to the United States while narrating the story of how he and his best friend brought about the end of humanity and the rise of an army of unstoppable, human-sized (six-foot-tall) praying mantises in small-town Iowa.” Gotta say I’m curious about this one.

Library:

I picked up a couple Overdrive audiobooks for the Armchair Audies teen category.

Far Far Away by Tom McNeal – Audiobook performed by W. Morgan Sheppard. This YA Fantasy is about a boy who can hear voices, specifically the ghostly voice of Jacob Grimm of the Brothers Grimm.

Viva Jacquelina! by L.A. Meyer – Audiobook performed by Katherine Kellgren. This is book 10 of the Bloody Jack series. There’s no way I can read/listen to the first 9 so hopefully this will work as a standalone. I listened to a sample of this and can tell the narration is something special.

    Here is mine

  5. The first two Bloody Jack books by L.A. Meyers are some of the best historical YA I’ve ever read. Jacky’s narrative voice is absolutely addicting. Haven’t read #10 yet, but I bet it’ll be great to hear as an audiobook for the same reason, as long as they’ve got a good reader. Please let us know how it is!

I’m really excited about Grasshopper Jungle; just hoping it’s readable as well as weird.

P.S. My review of Bloody Jack from ages ago:

I added the overdrive app to my phone last week and look forward to using the library for audios. Hope it’s not too complicate 😉

    1. Lucy says:

I just added the app to my phone, since I usually just use the desktop Overdrive. The app is handy though, and it’s a great way to check out audiobooks! Have fun 🙂
