Sous chef Aimee Tierney has the perfect recipe for the perfect life: marry her childhood sweetheart, raise a family, and buy out her parents’ restaurant. But when her fiancé, James Donato, vanishes in a boating accident, her well-baked future is swept out to sea. Instead of walking down the aisle on their wedding day, Aimee is at James’s funeral—a funeral that leaves her more unsettled than at peace.

As Aimee struggles to reconstruct her life, she delves deeper into James’s disappearance. What she uncovers is an ocean of secrets that make her question everything about the life they built together. And just below the surface is a truth that may set Aimee free…or shatter her forever.

A luminous debut with unexpected twists, Everything We Keep explores the devastation of loss, the euphoria of finding love again, and the pulse-racing repercussions of discovering the truth about the ones we hold dear and the lengths they will go to protect us.

Welcome to my stop on the Everything We Keep blog tour! Kerry Lonsdale’s debut novel is about love and loss and surviving when the unthinkable happens. Aimee’s fiancé dies after a boating accident in Mexico and Aimee has lingering questions about his death, especially after a mysterious stranger claims he’s still alive. When someone new tries to find a place in Aimee’s heart, the question marks regarding James’ death won’t let her move on.

I enjoyed all the twists and turns in this novel. It is chock-full of drama! It felt to me that something fishy was going on with James’ death, so it made sense for Aimee to pursue it, even though everyone else had moved on. I was eager for her to trust her instincts and go do some amateur sleuthing right away. But since Aimee’s also trying to open a café at the same time, the mystery is teased out a bit. Everyone seems like they have something to hide in this one, and each reveal brings up more questions.

This was an absorbing read for me that kept me quickly turning pages. I thought at first that this book was a stand-alone, but be warned that the epilogue suggests otherwise! There is a sequel (What We Leave Behind) planned for Summer 2017.

This book has been getting a lot of buzz since its inclusion in the Kindle First program. (And if you did grab it from Kindle First you can add the Audible companion for $1.99!) Let me know your thoughts if you’ve read this one yet. And if you haven’t, make sure to enter the giveaway below.
