Bright lights...screaming fans...cute roadies...country music sensation Bird Barrett has officially arrived.
Next up on the road to stardom, Bird's heading out on tour. Between opening for one of the biggest acts in country music and meeting a passionate young photographer who's working as part of the backstage crew, the weeks pass by in an exciting blur. It might even be enough to distract Bird from the way things ended - or never quite started - with Adam Dean.
When the tour wraps, though, it's back to reality. The label is eager for a new hit song, but the sudden fame, complete with a media-fueled rivalry with another country music starlet, has Bird questioning her priorities. Before she can pour her heart into her music, she'll need to figure out where it truly lies.
Filled with sweet country music spirit, Wildflower is a series you just can't get out of your head.

In The Road to You, the sequel to Wildflower, Bird Barrett’s star continues to rise as the young country star hits the road supporting a popular country diva. Bird finds love on tour, tries the Hollywood lifestyle on for size, navigates the award show circuit, and tries to remain true to herself throughout it all.

In Wildflower, Bird Barrett broke away from her family’s music act to be a star in her own right. She wrote an album and penned some songs inspired by her boyfriend, Adam. Now, she’s hitting the road solo and there’s a new love in her life, roadie Kai.

The Road to You is all about Bird’s growing pains as an artist. She’s struggling with writer’s block; pop star rivalries, and Nashville/Hollywood lifestyles. Kai is a little older than her and not really into Country music- he’s into more of an Indie sound and that causes some friction between them. Bird has to decide what kind of artist she wants to be, personally and on the radio.

This sequel is pure escapist fun. It gives you a glimpse into the glamorous life of a rising star and into the music business. Bird stretches her wings by making new celebrity friends, going to Hollywood parties, and flexing her credit card. She makes some missteps on her journey and frequently puts her foot in her mouth but since she is literally growing up in the spotlight, it’s understandable for her character.

Alecia Whitaker writes an engaging story with a realistic country music scene backdrop. You get a flavor for life on the road, award shows, press obligations, and artist team obligations. There is a spotlight on maintaining friendships and keeping it real with your family.

The author also narrates the audiobook. She conveys Bird’s wide-eyed enthusiasm and even sings when the story calls for it. Whitaker is good with voices and is a consistent, clear reader. I recommend the audio because I think it makes you feel like you are part of the experience with Bird Barrett.

Take a listen:

I recommend you read the Wildflower series in order so you can follow Bird’s journey from the beginning. I think there is still one more book and I look forward to seeing how Bird’s story ends.
