Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day of her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in L.A. together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year. Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist.
Can Ben’s relationship with Fallon—and simultaneously his novel—be considered a love story if it ends in heartbreak?
Hello dear readers! I’m so happy to talk to you about Colleen Hoover’s latest book November 9 ON November 9! As you might guess the calendar date is very important to this story, but with Tuesday release dates the book actually hits shelves on November 10 rather than the 9th. (Nov 10 doesn’t have that nice alliterative ring to it though). But no matter the date I know you’ll dig this high concept, addictive, and romantic read.
November 9 is about a writer and his muse, who decide to meet every year on the same date and have no contact in between. These emotional meetings have a big impact on the characters lives and their cliffhanger goodbyes had me quickly turning pages to get to their next November 9 meeting. So good I wanted to read this one in one sitting!

Fallon’s life changed in an instant when she suffered burns in a fire on November 9. The emotional and physical scars left behind have made it difficult for her to continue her acting career and to let people in. She and Ben have a meet-cute at a diner on the very day she’s leaving LA for NYC to reboot her career. He saves her from an awkward lunch with her dad and pretends to be her boyfriend. Ben’s a writer and Fallon loves books so they laugh that their intense chemistry could be described as insta-love- and that their meeting would make for a great story. They agree to meet every year on November 9 to pick up where they left off, but checking in in-between is off limits. After a few years of meeting, maybe they will try their hand at a relationship, maybe not – but at least Ben will have the material to write a juicy story out of it.
I liked the book-within-a-book aspect of this story as we learn more about the characters through the actual pages of Ben’s novel. Plus, there are bookish references sprinkled throughout the book to romance tropes, plot twists, and book boyfriends that are fun to read. Since Ben and Fallon both read romance they can laugh at their romantic adventures and how they resemble some cheesy lines from a book. And the foreshadowing to plot twists- watch out! Another nod to books (audiobooks!) is that Fallon is an actress who narrates audiobooks on the side.
Ben is a real charmer but he has his own scars too, they’re just not as visible as Fallon’s. He is a great romantic lead who seems to want the best for Fallon – to help her gain confidence and to feel as beautiful as the way he sees her. For a book about a one-day-a-year romance this gives you all the feels (but also takes you on an emotional roller coaster.)
Colleen Hoover’s New Adult books are the first ones I ever read and the ones I keep coming back to. And November 9 showcases Hoover’s trademark visceral storytelling. This book gives you that emotional connection you crave and keeps you up all night reading.

I’m intrigued by the idea of only meeting once a year. I’ll have to check this out.
