Finally we are starting to see some footage from Mockingjay Part 1! This teaser trailer (Our Leader the Mockingjay) premiered at Comic-Con last week and now all of us can check it out:
Lionsgate is really teasing out the Mockingjay footage, but I guess there’s still a ways to go so they can’t give it all away now.
I actually just re-listened to the Mockingjay audiobook so it’s fresh in my mind. (since we have soooo long to wait for the film) It’s nice to see the movie mirror the book in terms of Plutarch wanting Katniss to continue to be the Mockingjay and the face of the rebellion.
Andrew thinks this teaser was all story and all sizzle, and designed to show us that Philip Seymour Hoffman (Plutarch) is still in the film, introduce Natalie Dormer (with half her head shaved) as Cressida and Julianne Moore as President Coin.
The footage looks good so far – nice to see a glimpse of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and the District 13 crowd. The look of District 13 is pretty much how I imagined and such a stark contrast to the all-white look of President Snow’s Capitol.
I had a conversation with someone at a panel at Comic-Con and they thought Mockingjay didn’t really warrant two films. I’m personally OK with the split and think if done right the filmmakers have the material to make two awesome films. Do you think Mockingjay should be split in two, and what do you think of the footage so far?
Mockingjay Part 1 hits theaters November 21.
