Nadia Conrad has big dreams, and she’s determined to make them come true. But between maintaining her college scholarship and working at the local day care to support herself, dating’s the last thing on her mind. Then she moves into a new apartment and meets the taciturn yet irresistible guy in 1B….

Daniel Tyler has grown up too fast. Becoming a single dad at twenty turned his life upside down—and brought him heartache he can’t risk again. Now, as he raises his four-year-old son while balancing a full-time construction management job and night classes, the last thing he wants is noisy students living in the apartment upstairs. But one night, Nadia’s and Ty’s paths cross, and soon they can’t stay away from each other.

The timing is all wrong—but love happens when it happens. And you can’t know what you truly need until you stand to lose it.

"A tender, sweet, and sexy story about how life—and falling in love—can never be planned."

—Jennifer L. Armentrout, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Wait for You

I Want It That Way

Ann Aguirre is the author of many science fiction, dystopian, and urban fantasy books and now she’s diving into the world of new adult.  Her first book in the 2B trilogy is called I Want it That Way – and each of the three books are yes based on Backstreet Boys songs. But this series is not about a boy band, but in fact about a group of college friends navigating their way through life’s challenges and heartaches.

I Want it That Way is the story of Nadia and Ty. Nadia is studying to be a special education teacher and works at a daycare center to pay her college tuition. Ty is a single dad of four-year-old Sam. He is studying to be an architect and working in construction. Ty and Nadia live in the same building and are attracted to each other but have no time for anything serious. So a no-strings-attached relationship sounds like the perfect arrangement, right?

I enjoyed getting lost in this book. Though the characters have their struggles, Aguirre uses a light touch with this story. It’s not overly angsty or wall-to-wall sexytimes. The characters are flawed but relatable, and the conflicts are realistic.  I like that Aguirre focuses on concerns that many New Adults face like college/career success, finances, and evolving friends and family relationships, in addition to the romance side of things.

Nadia and Ty both put a lot of pressure on themselves in terms of education and career and so put their romantic feelings on the back burner. Since Ty is older and has some emotional baggage, and a young son, he’s not exactly what Nadia was looking for in a boyfriend. And as a single dad, Ty wants his son Sam to be his focus and not confuse him women that come and go. (Sam is a real sweetie) I liked that these two were honest with each other from the get go and I rooted for them to work it out. The chemistry is definitely there for these two.

In addition to putting BSB songs in my head while reading this book, it also made me hungry. There are so many foodie scenes! There are also many dinosaur jokes since that is one of the ways that Sam and Nadia bond in the book.

I think Ann Aguirre is a great addition to the New Adult scene and adds a fresh point of view.  It’s an easy breezy book that I looked forward to reading each night. Since the 2B series centers on a group of friends this book sets the groundwork for future books. I’m looking forward to Lauren and Rob’s story next in As Long As You Love Me (out Sept. 20).

  1. Foodie scenes! I love that. Books need more food scenes. This sounds like a super cute book. I am still not totally sold on NA but I would definitely give Ann’s books a try.

In NA I don’t really know what I like just yet since I’ve only read a few. I’ll say food scenes and lots of sexy times. 🙂
